Dear David,
Other than your own
Hersey line, there are two major, very large
Hersey lines in the U.S. I am the primary researcher for the southern
Georgia and northern
Florida Hersey families. The primary researcher for the
Hersey families from New
England is Stephen E. Hersey. We used to believe that these two
Hersey families were related, however, I have proven that they are not related via genetic testing (the
Hersey Surname DNA Project). The progenitor for the New
England Hersey line was from England; i.e. William
Hersey (1596-1658). The southern
Hersey line has an Indian (Native American) ancestor from
North Carolina.
Your
Hersey line is a third significant
Hersey line in the U.S., but it's not nearly as large as the other two. I have that your
Hersey line was originally from Mayenne, France; i.e., via Isaac
Hersey (1700-1768).
I'd love to be able to test a male
Hersey from your
Hersey line to show that your line was not connected to the other two.
