Caroline Hereford born 01/07/1811 and baptised 27/07/1811 at Bangalore

Hello board readers,

I have a theory that private John Hewitt H. M. 25th Light Dragoons (later quarter master serjeant 13th regiment Madras N. I.) became Caroline Hereford's step-father in about 1817 and Caroline Hereford changed her name to Caroline Hewitt in late 1823 or 1824.

Following this name change, Caroline Hewitt (spinster) married serjeant James Barclay H. M. 46th regiment (date of marriage 08/06/1824 at Bellary). After the death of James Barclay, Caroline Barclay (widow) married school master serjeant James Henry Crerar left-wing Madras European regiment (date of marriage 09/04/1833 at Secunderabad).

Any help or information anyone can provide for or demolishing this theory would be much appreciated.

Hello Jane....I am related to this Hereford, possibly. Jacob Burton Heriford's father was Geo. Washington Hereford. Jacob also had a brother named Geo. Washington who died at one yr. old. There is another George W. Hereford that was my relative and I was told his father was also Geo. W. Hereford. He is listed as a son in most trees, but is also listed as the son of Jacob B. Hereford and Matilda French. I have located info on Matilda French who died at very early age. GWH then married Sophie Jackson and had children. I do not know if Jacob and Matilda had a Geo. W. named after Jacobs father and/or deceased infant brother, or whether old GWH had another boy he named GWH jr, that could even have been raised by Jacob and Sophie??? Hello, Does anyone have any info or citations that seem to show the parents of George W. Herriford that was born about 1832 and married Margaret Toler , Mary Jane Wilson, and Cora Stephens??? My G Grandmother was Artilda E Herriford who's Mother was Mary Jane Wilson. Artilda married Marcus H Dunbar. Her father was Geo W Herriford and we always heard that his father was George Washington Herriford. Some people have been saying that his father is Jacob Burton Herriford. I have NO idea where this is coming from except that there is an age gap? He is listed as a SON in the will of Geo. W. Herriford. I have a lot of Herriford information, but non that can really tie Jacob Burton Herriford to him as a father. Thank you so much!! email is brauer.dds!charter.net

I believe that John Hereford was a kin to me. I know that there was brothers that came from England and they spelled there names different.People that would know more are all have passed. I would like to know more if I can. My father and my grandfather spelled it Heriford.

The individual currently listed as Micah Hereford in Ancestry.com is actually Mikah Hereford. She was my grandmother. As noted, she married James Warner Hammett and in February 1921 they had a son, James Warner Hammett, Jr.--my father.
My father married Marielle Thomas in December 1946 and I was born in November 1947--my full name being Marielle Mikah Hammett Kronberg. (Kronberg is my married name.)

Starting at T. Leo Dodd.... his father Joseph Charley Dodd. William Jesse Dodd.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, so I'm hoping this gets to you.

I have a Thomas HEREFORD b: 1561 in England, m: to Elizabeth UNKNOWN. I have no further information on them.

Their daughter was Elizabeth HEREFORD, b: 1587 in Bristol, Gloucester, England, m: John CARY in 1609, d: 1617 in Bristol.

John CARY, b: 10 Apr 1583 in Bristol, d: 1661 in Bristol.

John & Elizabeth are my 10G-grandparents.

I obtained the above information from "Origin of the Carey family of England" (http://www.careyroots.com/careyenglish.html). There is a note at the bottom of the page that states: "Extracts from Cary Family of England", published 1906 by Rev. Seth Cooley Cary.

we go back to Henry Heryford, son of John Hereford and Janes Barnes. Henry being born in 1740 on the west bank of the potomac river. He was a brother to your relative John Hereford born 1748 and married to Peggy Ammon.

Hello,
I'm researching my ancestors the Samples(s) and Danderidge family . The spellings of the names may vary.I'm attempting to trace my ancestors back to the England/West Indies roots. Pontototoc , Mississippi was home around the 1900's. William Sample & his parents were born in Tenn. according to the census. William Sample married Marguerite(Margaret). I believe Marguerite's parents were Henry(born Va) and Peggy(born S.C.) Dandridge. My great grandmother was the daughter of William and Marguerite Samples. Her name was Elivira Samples Hereford. Please respond if you have any information. Suggestions welcome.

I don't have the parents names for Robert HEREFORD HERIFORD.

I also have CROSS in my line.

I have Edward CROSS who married Rebecca GIBBONS in Va. then they moved to Hawkins County, Tn. Edward died and Rebecca married 2nd to William NALL and then he died abt. 1808 and she moved to Cumberland Co, Ky.
Edward and Rebecca CROSS had a daughter named Martha Patsy CROSS who married William ROGERS in 1805 Grainger Co, Tn. and they moved to Claiborne Co, Tn. by 1820 Martha (Cross) ROGERS left William and moved to Cumberland Co, Ky. Then Martha (Cross) ROGERS moved to Russell Co, Ky.

My wife descends from George Hereford (b.1733)--a brother of John and Henry. Are you sure of John's birthdate? I have him as 1729 with a son James (b. 1755) by first wife Elizabeth Barry and children by second wife Margaret (Peggy) Ammon starting with Nancy (b.ca. 1756). First wife died in childbirth with son James.

Don was my husband Tom's father. There was a lot of secrecy back in the day, but we had the pleasure of knowing Don for a short time and attended his funeral. We also met his sister Beverly just a few years ago. Tom was adopted by his mom's husband but it's been a healing process meeting bloodline relatives and learning more about Don in general. Children of John and Jean Barnes Hereford: Ann, Margaret, James, John, (II), George, Janet, Frances and HENRY, b. abt 1740, Fairfax Co., VA.

HENRY md. Nancy/Frances Ann Minitree
Their children: Sarah, Ann, Jane,Rosamond, Frances, Andrew, John (b. 1774 - War 1812), James, Henry, Jr., GEORGE wASHINGTON HEREFORD, William and Paul. Henry moved his family from the Henry Co.,VA/NC area to Ky - was there a while and moved to Franklin Co., TN where he died.

GEORGE W. HEREFORD md. Lucy Burton, Wayne Co., KY. He and Lucy had the following children: WILLIAM B. HEREFORD, Robert B. Hereford, Nancy, Jacob, George W., (Jr),James, Elizabeth Jane and Mary(Polly).

My ancestor was William B. Hereford and he married Jane Parmley, daughter of John Parmley and Rebecca (Cross) Parmley. Their daughter Rebecca Jane married Cavil Hopper and they were my great grandparents - they moved to KS from KY about 1872 - are buried about an hour from our town, Bartlesville, OK.- right across the state line.

The date that I have for Robert "B" is 24 May 1813 - but the B and the date could be wrong. I have that Robert married Matilda Ann Blankenship. I have one daughter listed for them: Martha Ann spouse of William Davis Stephens. I have him in the 1850 census of Russell co., with his wife, Matilda and one of his children is Martha A.

If this Robert C/B is yours then he is the son of George Washington Hereford and his wife, Lucy (Burton) Hereford and a grandson of Henry - is that right - ?

I found Robert in the 1850 census - no middle initial - married to Matilda Herriford/Hereford he was b. about 1812 in KY and she was36 and he was 38 - the children were: Mary J., John, Martha A., Lucy C., Francis B., Jacob B., and Joel B. Also living in Russell Co.,at that time was George Herriford , age 61, b. NC and son, William, age 17, b. KY..Maybe his middle initial was B for his mother, Lucy Burton........I hope some of this works for you........bg

There appears to be many family trees for the Hereford family. I am trying to confirm Cathern E Hereford and Rev Joseph Sheline had a son James Henry Sheline. Then confirm this is the James Henry Sheline who married China possibly Nichols and lived in Huntington West Virginia.

Hereford > Williama B. Hereford > Rebecca Jane (Hereford) Hopper > Esculapius Hopper > Alfred Hopper > then me. My Herefords were in Russell Co., KY - to Kansas about 1872. Rebecca Jane Hereford Hopper is buried in Kansas. Her parents were Wiliam B. Hereford & Jane Parmley Hereford. Henry Hereford came to Russell, Co.,KY from Va through Henry Co. Hereford Services

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Anna Hereford, 89, one of Shasta County's pioneers, were held in the McArthur Church on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gail Dedman officiating. The Ryan Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Interment was in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery near McArthur.

Mrs. Harnsbereger sang "Saved by Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset".

Mrs. Herford* was born in Sacramento on Oct. 11, 1868, and lived in Shasta County for 85 years. She was a member of McArthur Grange No. 420.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lola Heaton, the postmaster at McArthur, and a son, Daryl, og Coalinga, Calif.
