Hi Jonathan,

I tried to email you about the Hankin family but it came back as a bad email address. I would like to speak with you about a posting you made a few years ago, about someone you know/knew who had traced the Hankin families for 500 years. Please reply.

Thank you.

Dear Jonathan
I have just discovered the surname Henkin in my family tree. Anne Henkin was married to thomas Davies at Llandybie, Carmarthenshire on 29.3.1811. They were my grt grt grt grt grandparents. Anne was the daughter of William and Jane Henkin, born 6.2.1785. Would you be able to connect this information with what you know about the Henkins? Where does it originate? I'd love to know.
Regards
Sioned

Hello!!
My grandfather's name is Yakov Shklayr. He was born in 12-25-1920. His parents were from Starobin, Belarus. His father's name was Boris Shklyar ( 1888 ) and his mother's name was Hay Krewitskay ( 1888 ). His mother had a sister, Rivka ( or Raisa or Raika ) Krevitskay. She moved to USA in 1918-1920 and married an amercan man ( don't know the name ). I belive, she had two sons. One of them was Peter and he was in US NAVY during WW2. If some of these sounds close, please let me know. ( forgive my english, it's not all that good ).

Thanks, Yuriy

Debbie,

My father's aunt, Esther Sklar (Shklyar), married a man named Henkin (I do not know the first name). His brother married a woman of the Beinenson (sp?) family, who was a first cousin of Esther.

Are you descended from either of these two brothers?

Bob Sklar

Debbie,

Thanks. I can include a little more information:

My great-aunt Esther was probably born during the late 1860's, and died about 1956. She and her husband's children were named, to the best of my recollection, Sara, Archie, Ben, Joe, Max and, I think, one other son. I'm not sure of the order, but Ben was probably the oldest, born about 1890, and Sara was born 1899, died 1996. I believe both Max and Joe were dentists.

I'll greatly appreciate any information your father can provide.

Bob

Henkin and Genkin combined genealogies

Hi, everyone. I just discovered this message board, thanks to another Henkin researcher. I'm both Debbie Henkin's and Joshua Koran's cousin, who are both also researching.

Like you've all said, many of us may be related because of similar names and the small geographical area we come from.

For a couple of years several of us researching our Henkin/Genkin ancestors have been contacting each other.
With one of our group planning a trip to Mogilev, Belarus soon, we're comparIng notes with more involvement.
We kinda have an informal (non-public) mailing list going on.

If you're interested in participating, let me know.
We're trying to compare relatives and naming patterns to find links we've missed before.
Also, there is a project to translate vital records from Mogilev from the 1800's and put them on the internet. Some new GEN'KIN names were added last week. Check out <http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus/13_cds_births.htm> and the All-Belarus Database at <http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/belarus/> (search box is at the bottom of the page)

More later!

Hilary Henkin

Henkin Update

I was contacted by I believe it was Joshua Henkin about a year ago. I believe he is an author from New York. I lost contact with him but he has the most comprehensive background on the Henkin's. He has gone back 500 years to spain. It seems that we are all related, at least the east cost Henkin's but I preume all of are distant cousins. We got ran out of Spain during the Inquisition and went to Holland. In Holland we appearently learned ship building. The ship building took us to Russia to build ships for Alexander the Great. From there we came to the USA and appearenly some cousin's went to one city and others to others. If anyone knows how to contact Joshua?? I have my family history compiled now and would like to share it with him and you all as well.

I am in Dallas, Texas. I met a Henkin here who immigrated from Russia only 10 years ago. He is from the region that us Henkin's
came from...small world.
