Hempen family Breese, Illinois/ Germantown, Illinois to Williamson County, Texas

After posting the picture I found of baby Frances Hempen, I reas through some of the posts on this board and was shocked to see that at least some Hempen families migrated from the HAnnover area of Germany to Breese, Illinois, then on to Williamson County Texas (Corn Hill, Walburg, Taylor, La Grange, Schwertner). From there I see Hempens traveling to Dimmitt, Texas and then Miles and San Angelo, Tome Green County, Texas. I am interested in trading notes with anyone whose family followed this path.

I am related to Gerhard Book, born in Bartelso/ Germantown, Ilinois who later lived in Corn Hill, Williamson County, Texas.

We wondered why he made the choice to move to Williamson County, but it is evident from the posts here that these families traveled together from place to place. An interesting find for me!

Frances Cecilia Hempen Lefner

This is a picture of Frances Cecilia Hempen, 1916-1997. She is the baby in the white dress. She was the daughter of August Hempen and Ella Schwertner of Williamson County, TX. She was probably born in Corn Hill or Walburg, Texas.

For some reason, Frances was raised by Gerhard Book and Franziska "Frances" Blumerich Heubner Schwertner Book. Frances Book was the grandmother of Frances Hempen.

I am hoping to share this picture with the descendents of Frances Hempen.

Hello Michael, I am related to the Hempen line and have quite a few Hempen names in my database. Unfortunately, I do not have your Dad's or his brother Ed's name. If there is any way you can find out from other members of your family or relatives more information about your family tree that would greatly help me in finding out if our Hempen lines are related to each other. I am sure they probably are but I would need more information about your family to know for sure. If you are interested, please contact me at my private email which is jackmckinley@juno.com.
Jack Mckinley

Re: Hempen

I have quite a bit of Hempen info. Some of it is missing connections which I believe must exist.

I know my Hempen family came from the Hannover area (that is the spelling in the old Census records). I also know that they had relatives in Breese / Carlyle Illinois. Because my family used to go there to visit. Unfortunately I was such a small child I do not remember any of the names.

Mine were here in the 1860s because Henry married in St. Louis in 1864. His adopted son, John took the name Hempen and was married as a Hempen although he was born Schniederalbers. His birth father had died when John was very young. Henry Hempen married his birth mother and raised John.

I know Henry worked for a Sugar Mill and John worked for the Railroad. These Hempens were Catholic. There were evidently some Hempens who were Evangelical Lutheran as well in the St. Louis area.

Please feel free to contact me off list about Hempen data if you would like.

Laura
I don't even know if my grandfather was born here but I know he met and married my grandmother here in St. Louis, Missouri.

If you think there might be some connection please let me know.
