BOARDMAN, OH – Gordon Helle, 81, died Saturday, Sept 22, 2012 at the home of his son after a lengthy illness.

Gordon was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) the son of Letha and Elmer Helle.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949.
He later graduated from Youngstown State University in 1964. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army’s 2th Division 34th Infantry Regiment.
He had served as the Secretary Treasurer of Heltzel Company in Warren, Ohio for 23 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Sulgrave and Poland, Ohio Masonic Lodge since 1955, was a former member the Youngstown Area Association of Credit Management and the Youngstown Chapter of the National Association of Accounts.

Gordon enjoyed boating, vintage cars and target shooting.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred M. Watson, whom he married April 28, 1952; a son, Eric; daughter Lynn; and three grandchildren, Jordan, Jesse and Riley.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Helle.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening with services beginning at 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.

Hi, I am a Helle too. Born and raised in Denmark, and residing in the Philippines since 1969. I am not sure what's the origin of Helle, but there are a lot of them in Scandinavian countries.

Hi My Name is Nicole (Mickelson) Thurston. My Grandmother was Gertie Helle Mickelson. I think the connection might be on her mother an father's side. My great grandmother was Ingeborg Olsen Helle (she was his first wife-died in childbirth in 1903)and my great grandfather was Halvor Helle. Halvor Helle was born August 25, 1865 in Hyleste, Norway(Satesdahl). He immigrated to the US in 1887 with two children one (Ole I died on the voyage and was buried at sea) My great grandmother Ingeborg had a total of 8 children. They are as follows: Jim 1886-1969, Ole 1887-1887, Tildy 1889-1965, Gertie 1891-1969(my great grandmother), Emma 1893-1971, Ole II 1896-1958, Halvor 1898-1974, John 1900-1970, Knute 1902. I don't have Halvor Helle's mother or father's name. One more thing Halvor went back to Norway for a short visit in 1919 as a widow, and remarried. He died March 15, 1936.

What a surprise to find this posting from a couple years ago. I am hoping that you are still are checking this site. I do believe we are related, my grandfather was Otto and my father being his oldest son. I haven't worked on my family tree in along time as I had just come to a dead end and didn't have as much time as I would have liked to devote to my detective work. Can you help? Great site Lee! My name is Phil Wester, I descend from a Joseph Heller in St. Louis. Oral family tradition has it that the name was at one time Helle, with relatives living in Illinois. Does that sound familiar?

My name is Phil wester, I descend from a Joseph Heller. Family tradition says that the name was originally Helle, some deal with money divided the family at some point. My mother said that the Helle's lived in Illinois. We are from St. Louis.

I am searching for information on James HALEY who married Nancy HALEY March 18, 1860 in Dickson County, TN (Batch 19173, Source call # 0497401). Who is James parents? Nancy was Nancy HALEY (before marriage)? Who is Nancy, was she married before to a HALEY? Who are her parents?

On the 1860 Dickson County census, family # 283, HH # 283, is James HALEY age 32, born NC; Nancy age 26, born NC and W C, age 5, born NC. Family #284 is Thomas HALEY age 52, born NC and Aggy (Agnes?) age 52, born NC? Is this James' parents? The 1850 Hickman County census lists Thomas HALEY age 45, born NC; Agnes age 47, born NC; Wilson, age 18, born NC; James, age 16, born NC; John, age 13?, born NC. Is this the same family? If so what about James age, 16 years in ten seems like an extreme amount.

Is W C HALEY, Nancy's child by a first marriage or James by a first marriage? W C's (William Carroll) death certificate lists his birthplace as Trenton, Gibson County, TN; but have not been able to make a connection to Gibson County as of this date.

The Helle name originated in Germany. There is a Helle reunion planned in Germany which is being planned and worked on by Sigbert Helle of Germany. He has been working on a project of collecting all persons of Helle name. He has a posted web site at: http://www.in-der-helle.de/. I was born and raised in IL, not sure but I suspect that the Helle's back there must number in the 1000s by now. There is a Helle reunion every year, most of the time its in Sept. This year its in Farmington.

Norwegian family Helle

Hi ! I'm a Norwegian and my last name is Helle. As far as I know there are 2 og 3 different families with the name of Helle in Norway and we are not related. My family is from the south-east of Norway. My grand-father (Gustav Ludvig Helle) was born on the homestead Helle in Ullerøy, Skjeberg outside Sarpsborg town. He has one older brother (Gunnar Helle) that still lives there. I have heard that they had aunts (maybe uncels too) that emigrated to America.

Just wondering if any of you Helle outthere are related to my Helle family.

sorry to take so liong getting back to you. Charles and my gr-gr-grandfather Andrew were brother, he married Katherine Druar. I have good information on the Rau side--JOsephs Wife but have had no luck on the Hell side.

Just got back from traveling to Helfranzkirch, France, where Joseph Hell was born. He left at about 18 or 19. I was able to speak to one "Hell" relative, received some information and will be corresponding through mail and e-mail. Generation wise I am related as such (Joseph, Charles, Isadore, Richard, me). It was great!

I am looking for ancestral information on Jacob Hell who was born about 1765 in PA (probably or Germany). He came to Montgomery County, Ohio which later became Preble County and died in 1829. He may have had a brother named Michael. Jacob's wife was named Elizabeth Shallus. When he lived in Pa, he was in Somerset County and attended the Pine Hill Church (St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran). I'm interested in parents and date of entry into U.S.

Just checking on your ancestor, Warren Hawthorne Helle, and found a Warren H. Helle b. in PA, but different date of birth. Possibly the author of that Ancestry Tree might be able to help you some also. I couldn't link it to my family of Helle's, but it is my believe that just about every Helle is related somehow. Today I've seen these Helle postings around here.
As Lee Helle posted last year there is a huge database of Helle from Germany. In the mean time I have taken all the data here: www.in-der-helle.de
Most of the Helle in the US came from Germany and from Norway. I would invite the Norwegian Helle to use "my" database too. Please contact me for additional data.
I'm working on the subject to make the database more readable for "Non-Germans" - You may help me!

Peter and Olga Rockstad

I am looking for any information regarding Peter and Olga ROCKSTAD. I believe that they immigrated from Norway around 1890-91, probably not together. Peter b. 1869, Olga b.1874. I think I've found my great-grandmother, but can't be sure without your help. I'm looking for information on Jennie Helle, (b. 3.9.1870; d. 9.24.1921) who was born in Fillmore, Bristol, MN and married one Ole O. Haugen. She had four children: Andrew Haugen (b. 1911), Anna (b. 1914), Thelma (b. 1920) and Chester (Bud?, b. 1927). All children were born in Beltrami County, MN. Jennie Helle (or Thorson) and her husband Ole both immigrated from Norway in 1904 according to 1930 census. Has anyone out there researched this family with possible ties? mj

My great great grand father was Joseph Hell. He was Alsace France. At one time it was this land was owned by Germany. I have been working on a family tree for some time. At one time my ancestors lived in Hope County North Dakota.
