Glen:
I am not sure if I responded to you. If not, I apologize for the delay.
I believe you are descended from George Heidrich who came from East Prussia (Lithuania)and lived in Detroit. George was a brother to my great grandfather, Joseph who lived in Racine, as did another brother, Otto. They also had a sister, Christina who married a Hoppe and they lived in Wisconsin and Detroit. She died in Chicago.
What we are working on is trying to find information on the father to these Heidrich's, Jakob Heidrich who was married to a true Salzburger, Christina Hohl (Holl).
I have met Joyce Palenschus when Dagmar Heidrich Edwards was visiting her in East Troy about five years or so ago. They do not have the restaurant but I remember my Grandmother Bertha Heidrich Sabroff talking about going to this restaurant. I have been working on finding church records and Dagmar has been diligently going through them. I cannot read German. Some were in Polish, some are in Lithuanian, Russian or even in French, depending on who was in power at the time.
My grandfather was Albert Saborowsky and his father August, mother Caroline Less. We have found them in the Lutheran church in Virbalis (Verballen). It is not Polish as the sky was added when Poland was in control. I believe the name to be Sebrov. August served the church in records up to about 1903 and my grandmother was baptized there. She was one of 15 children and the only one who lived and came to Racine in 1903. Joseph Heidrich married Wilhelmina Kraus.
I have a wonderful book all about the Salzburgers that Dagmar told me about published in 1981. My problem is that it is all in German but the pictures really depict the times.I grew up in Madison, the daughter of Walter Sabroff. Today I live in the town of Westport, just off the north shore of Lake Mendota. I have three children and five grandchildren. Please e-mail me direct at marana@tds.net and let me know what information you may have. Where do you reside at? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Was Dagmar at the reunion you had?
Sandie

Look at what killing time on the web can do for you.

I'm Glen Heidrich (an east prussian salzberger descendent). Recently, at a family reunion, I learned of my ancestry. Yes Lithuania, Yes Kaunas area.

Early 1700's migration from salzburg area to East Prussia. The Luthern exodus from Germany.

My grand father Rudolph Heidrich came over around 1914, got off the boat in Detroit. sponsered brothers and sisters (big family) migration later.

My dads cousin Ed Hoppe lived in the Detroit area also.

There was an Arther Heidrich in Detroit who was distantly related somehow. His wife taught at Southfield High School.

My dads middle name is Otto named after uncle Otto Heidrich (rudy's brother).

Our wisconsin cousins live near madison they are the Polenchus family branch.

If your in Wisconsin visit Jackson's Point II restarant talk to the owner Joyce Jackson she is my fathers cousin.

Other realtives: Knopp, polenchus, hoppe

Glen Heidrich
glenheidrich@yahoo.com

I just came across this string and my grandfather was Hermann Rudolf Ernst-Guenther Heidrich, born on 12 October 1898 in Stralsund Germany. He married my grandmother Thea Boedecker and had 3 children, Hans-Joachim (my father), Barbara and Hartmut. My grandfather had 4 siblings, Herbert, Charlotte Heidrich, Gustav and Senta Heidrich. If anyone has any information on these names I would appreciate it. Some of his relatives (I am not sure if they were uncles) moved to the US and ended up in California.
Annette Heidrich

Bill:
I am not sure if your Heidrich's are connected to ours, but if they did live in Lithuania in the Kovno (Kowno, Kaunas) or Verballen (Vilinius) area, they would likely be associated. About 1735 there were an estimated 30,000 prostestant Germans who left Germany to Lithuania for religious reasons. My Heidrichs were among this group. A distant cousin of mine who lives in Florida and who I just met last summer, is reviewing some of the Lutheran church records for these cities. If she comes up with anything, I will certainly let you know. So far all we have located in Kovno is the confirmation record of my grandmother in 1898.
Sandie
My information shows that Jacob Heidrich was born in Kovno, Lithuania. He married Christina Holl who was born in Dwarnischken (present day Tverinoske) Lithuania. Their son, Joseph, my great-grandfather, was born in Elberfeld, Germany according to his application for citizenship papers, in 1857. He arrived in America on Jan. 1, 1903 and went to Racine, Wisconsin where his brother, Otto, was already living. Otto was born in 1859, brother George in 1862 and sister Amanada, not an exact date, but the youngest. These three were born in Lithuania and came to America from there.
Amanda married George Hoppe and they lived in Madison, Dane Co., WI. I live just outside of Madison in the Town of Westport which runs across the top of Lake Mendota. Sandie

I apologize for listing Amanda as a Heidrich. The given name should be Christina. I am not sure Christina is a sister to Joseph, Otto and George. Christina married Joseph Hoppe. Their son, George Hoppe married Amanda Netzlaff. They are in the 1920 census for Racine, WI and in 1930 are in Madison, WI.
Joseph and Otto came to Racine. George Heidrich lived in the Detroit area.
We have just located church records regarding the Heidrich's in Kovno (Kaunas) Lithuania going back to the early 1700s. I have located a cousin who was born in Europe and had some interesting information regarding these Heidrichs. They went from Germany to Lithuania about 1735 due to religious reasons. They wanted to remain Lutherans. It is these Lutheran church records she will be reviewing.
Joseph Heidrich married Wilhelmina Klaus.
The Stein, Couley, Robetzky, Shebanek families are also within this family.

The father to Joseph, Otto and George was Jacob Heidrich who was married to Anna Selminkat. I will post information as she reviews the records.
I would appreciate any input.
Sandie in Wisconsin

An update on Amanda Hoppe. She lived and died in Madison, WI. I received information from her grand daughter, who remarkably lives just two miles from me. Christina is not a Heidrich, but a Netzlaff. So now the story deepens to find out how if this Hoppe family is related to the Heidrichs.
I apologize for any duplication of information in the messages.
Jacob Heidrich was married to Christina Holl, the daughter of Gottlieb Holl and Anna Selminkat. These families were all of Lithuania.
His son, Joseph was born and married in Lithuania. Married to Wilhelmine Krause, not Klaus as reported earlier.
George Hoppe was the son of Joseph Hoppe and Christina Heidrich. Between Joseph and Christina, one died in Chicago and the other in Detroit, I believe in the early part of the 1900s. George and Amanda lived in Madison, WI. I would like to know who the parents to Christina Heidrich Hoppe are.

A correction on this posting. Joseph Heidrich was not born in Elberfeld, Germany. Church records indicate he was born in Lithuania, the son of Jacob Heidrich and Christina Holl. Joseph married Wilhelmine in Lithuania. Also, Amanda is not a Heidrich. There is a Christina Heidrich who married a Hoppe. They too lived in Detroit, Chicago and mostly in the Madison and Racine areas of Wisconsin. At this point I do not know who her parents are but I do know they were friends of Joseph and Wilhelmine Heidrich.

George went to Detroit later. We have a lot of information on this branch and are continually reviewing church records from East Prussia-Lithuania.
A correction regarding the Heidrich and Hopp/Hoppe families. Joseph Heidrich and his daughter, Bertha, were not born in Elberfeld but in the area of Kovno, Lithuania and/or just southwest of there.
Joseph's sister was not Amanda. Amanda Netzlaff married to George Hoppe. George's mother was Christina/Ernestyna/Tina Heidrich and she was the sister to Joseph, Otto and George Heidrich. Joseph and Christina were last located in Adams Co., WI in the 1920 census where he was a farmer. I would like to find out where either of them died and are buried. Their grand daughter stated one died in Detroit and one in Chicago but I have not been able to verify that. The grand- daughter is quite elderly and may not be correct. I would like to locate an obit and a death certificate for Christina. Thank you.
Sandie
Note that my e-mail is presently: marana@tds.net

Don't know if this will help or not. There is a Phillip Heydrick/Hetrick (et al) who settled in Henry County IA around 1840. He served in the Rev. War as a Captain and was from Pine Grove (now Schuylkill Co. PA). Sometime around 1790 he and family moved to Virginia and from there to Henry County.

The Henry County museum has some information on Philip. From what I have found, my suspicion is that he was the son of a Christopher Heydrick who came to PA in 1738 with brothers Peter and George. Other than circumstantial information, I haven't been able to prove a relationship between Philip and Christopher.

Steve

I'm researching my Headrick/Hedrick family and I recently was told by an Aunt that our last name was at one time "Von Heidrich" and that my GG Grandfather (Isaac HEADRICK-HEDRICK) was born in Germany (abt. 1808). I have conflicting info. on his birth place, some say it was in Tennessee, but on one of his son's birth certs. I just received it does say Germany...I have not been able to trace back any further...

Does anyone have any info. regarding the "Von Heidrich" surname? Anyone with ancestor's with the same surname coming from Germany? Any info. and or help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
I have a Heidrich family who lived in Lithuania. My great-grandfather, Joseph Heidrich, was born in Elberfeld (now Wuppertal) Germany but all of the siblings that I know of were born after that in Lithuania. If I recall right the ones born in Lithuania were Otto, George and Amanda. Joseph, Otto and Amanda ended up in Racine, Wisconsin around 1900, however George came around 1930 to the Detroit area. The father to these Heidrichs' was Jacob (Jakob) Heidrich).

I have continued to follow the Heiderich/Heidrich family history for a couple years now. I have been working with the son of the cousin from Florida you were referring to in an earlier posting (the orange growers).
I am the great great granddaughter of Anna Elise Heiderich Stuetz (daughter of Herman Heiderich (1799-1866). Anna Elise Heiderich and her brother, Herman Joseph Heiderich came to Philadelphia, Pa on June 1, 1846 on the ship "Brig Michael". I have compiled quite a bit of documentation on the family. Please check out my database under www.rootsweb.com under dckahhan.

Art, I am guessing you are the son of Carl Alfred Olson and Ann Clare Ward (who is the daughter of Berta Marghreta Heidreich Ward) ?

Dottie Townsend Kahhan
