Donald K. Heidler, 80 of Lake City,
died following an accident on Friday July 17, 2009. He was born April 6, 1929 in Fairview, ERIE,COUNTY, PA,
a son of the late Cyril and Nettie Schermer Heidler. Don attended the Fairview High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Texas and in Newfoundland where he served with the 818th Motor Vehicle Squadron as a heavy equipment operator. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to the Fairview area where he assisted his family on their farm. He later worked for Nickel Plate Sand & Gravel and R.R. Leininger for many years as a truck driver. Most recently he had been employed by the Girard Cemetery and mowed lawns for individuals in the west county area. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Erie and the American Legion Post #494 in Girard. He enjoyed gardening and was a devout tinkerer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Heidler in 1995. He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife Beverly English Heidler of Lake City, whom he married, March 5, 2001; also by a daughter, Kay Gering and her husband Michael of Port Charlotte, Fla., two step daughters, Linda S. McDonald and her husband David of Cranesville, Tammie R. Mortellaro and her husband Alan of Lake City; two grandchildren, Michael D. Gering II and Jennifer L. Gering of Port Charlotte; six step grandchildren, Kari Wodarski, Dale M.Wodarski, Tiffany Fiolek and her husband Jeff, Timothy Robison, Cole Mortellaro and Greg Summerson; five step great grandchildren. No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard.
