MANSFIELD: Jack L. Heichel, 83, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield.
Born November 12, 1931 in Richland County, Ohio, he was the son of Anna (Bricker) and Alden Ray Heichel, Sr.
Jack graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He retired after 47 years from Hartman Electric where he worked as a supervisor.
Jack was a member of Main St. United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 16, Malabar Spinning and Weaving Guild, Algonquin Mill Spinning and Weaving Guild, the Men's Garden Club at the Kingwood Center, and a former member of the Clearfork Valley Rangers. He also volunteered at the Kingwood Center, Malabar Farm, and Smithsville Weaving Mill.
Jack enjoyed being a scoutmaster for many years where he was also the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow.
In his free time he also enjoyed baking and was known for his sugar cookies, pies, and caramels.
He is survived by his son, Douglas E. Heichel of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Keller) Heichel in January 2001; grandson, Derek N. Caley; brothers, Eugene, Kenneth, and Alden Ray Heichel; and sister, Iona Powers Cox.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, conducted by Dr. DeWayne Smith.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Private burial will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park.
