Joel R. Heibel
Loving Husband and Father,
Joel R. Heibel, age 52 years, of Erie,County, pa,
passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Erie, June 19, 1957, a son of the late C. Richard and Pearl Hoffman Heibel. Joel served in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired as a captain with the U.S. Army Reserves after 22 years. He was employed as a registered nurse for 26 years, the past six years at Hamot Medical Center.
He enjoyed scuba diving with his wife, traveling, playing chess, tai chi, bowling, sky diving, swimming, running and watching jeopardy. He was a history buff and held a black belt in karate. He was also a member of the East Erie Turners, National Rifle Association, Erie Chess Club and the Times Old Newsies. Joel was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Felicitas “Fely” Santos Heibel of Erie;Co, PA,
one son Richard Heibel of SanDiego, Calif;
one brother, David M. Heibel, wife Kathleen of Lebanon, Pa. and one sister, Carolyn Brown, husband Paul of Erie.Co, PA,
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the A. Brugger & Sons Funeral Home, LLP, 845 East 38 Street, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend services there on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
