Waller Redd (1783-1825) was married to Keziah Carter Staples in 1816 and had one daughter, Lucinda, in 1817 before Keziah's death. I am researching a lawsuit in Chancery Court of Henry County, Virginia where the plaintiffs are the guardian of Lucinda Redd and Catherine Heffelfinger, wife of Henry Hefflefinger. From my cursory review of the documents, it appears that the lawsuit was filed around 1828. I haven't been able to ascertain why Catherine Hefflefinger is involved in this lawsuit as I haven't been able to determine her relationship, if any, to Waller Redd. I have not been able to find a will for Waller Redd in Henry County, Virginia. Some trees here on Ancestry.com show him as having died in Patrick County, but at the time of his death he was the county clerk for Henry County, Virginia so it would seem that any will he had would be recorded in the probate court of Henry County. This lawsuit went on until around 1848.
To further complicate things, I can't tell when Henry and Catherine married. I have a marriage bond for them dated 22 Feb 1839, but Henry Hefflefinger filed the lawsuit on "behalf of his wife, Catherine" in 1828. The marriage bond shows her name as "Catherine Powers alias Heffelfinger", so it may be that were in a common law marriage even though Virginia didn't recognize such a union.
Any information as to these relationships would be greatly appreciated.
