You might want to contact Justin Fritz, who did this posting in 2002:
I am doing some family history on Eli George Heagy and his family. I know that he served in the Civil War for the north in the 187th Pennsylvania Infantry Company E as a Private. I also have a newspaper article from August 26, 1870 that advertises the selling of Eli Heagy's farm 5 miles
from Gettysburg. It says that he iintends to go south.
His daughter, Lottie Ellen Lucinda, was born Feb 27, 1872 in North Carolina. Ten years later, June 8th 1880 in the census they are back in Adams Co. PA. I was wondering
if you know anything about their move south, why did they go? where did they live? why did they chose to move back? I am also looking for any information on Eli's other children:
> Sara Alverta Heagy
> Kate Melissa Heagy
> Mary Emma Heagy
> George Henry Heagy
> Nevin Davis Lee Heagy
> Margaret May Heagy
> Lottie Ellen Lucinda Heagy
> Rose Alice Heagy - married to Tolbert Rider (I have quite a bit of info on her)
> Gates Clyde Heagy
I would appreciate any help on this line of the family, and I would be glad to share the pictures, articles, and census records I have of the family.
-Thank you-
Justine Fritz
Richmond, VA
I believe something is suspicious with the names. The William Hege listed by the McQueen family is the same as your ancestor. It has William's wife as Susan A. and three children, Lora W, Milton T, and Alex J.
The 1880 census is incorrect, but in the 1900 census for William Hage in Blue River, Johnson County, IN, it says his father was born in NC, which is a match for being the son of Timothy.

McQueen family information says that William A. Hege born March 18, 1838 was the son of Timothy Hege and Florilla McQueen.
In the 1860 census, Newcastle, Fulton County, IN, William Hege, age 22, is living with his cousins Elizabeth (Hege) Emmons, and Nathan Hege. Elizabeth and Nathan are children of Timothy's brother, Samuel.
Timothy died 1846 and Samuel died 1855.
I have more information on these families if your interested.

I have Joseph as Josephus. Joseph and Margaretha lived near Littlestown, Adams County, PA.

I believe it's most likely that Margaretha is the daughter of Jacob Hage (Heagey). Jacob Hage moved from Lancaster County, PA, to Conewago Twp, Adams (then York) County, PA about 1780.

My wife's great grandmother was Alverta S. Heagy, born in Maryland in Sept 1860. She was the daughter of Eli George Heagy, born 21 July 1837, in Hanover, York County, Pa. He was married to Hannah Jane Getz, born in 1838. Eli's parents were George (born in Conewago Twp., Adams County, Pa on 14 July, 1785) and Susannah Scholl Heagy. George's parents were Johann Jacob Heagy (b. Feb 2, 1737 in Elizabeth Twp, Lancaster Co, Pa) and Anna Christina Baumann. Any insight that you could provide on any of them would be appreciated.

Very interesting. Do you think his children could've been confused in giving those names? (i'm assuming they are the ones filling out the burial papers) Maybe hearing of cousin Nathan and Florilla's maiden name? The children of William are correct except I think Lora is Dora. Many of his children are buried along side of him, none of them with tombstones. My husbands line is from Williams son Joseph Hege b1880 Johnson Co IN. Thank you for the information.

Not sure of the birth dates and places except they had a son William Hege b. 1838 in Indiana-d. 29 Dec 1918 inEdinburg, Johnson Co. Indiana. I don't know any of Williams siblings (if any) or where Nathaniel and Nancy were born or when. Please help if you can. This has been a brick wall for me for years. (William married Susan Ann Pruitt 16 June 1862 in Bartholomew Co. IN.) Thank you in advance. Susie

Must be the wrong William Hege, there were two born around the same date. Thats been a hang up for me. My William is buried at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburg, IN. The burial records (as well as family knowledge) says his parents were Nathaniel Hege and Nancy McQueen. No dates or places for either of them.
See how crazy I've been trying to locate the right one? Maybe my William wasn't born in IN. but moved here before his marriage to Susan A Pruitt? Thank you for the reply, If you find anything matching my information please fill me in. Thanks Again, Susie P.S. Could it be that Timothy and Florilla went by other names? Just a shot in the dark.
