Joe,
Henry Head (1647-1716) lived and died in Little Compton (which is now in Rhode Island, but was then part of the Plymouth Colony). However, he was not born there; most indications are that he was born in England, and migrated to the colonies around 1677.
There is a christening record for a "Henery son of Henery Heed" in Camerton, County Cumberland, England from 1649 which I believe to be his. This belief is based, among other things, on DNA testing which was done comparing 2 descendants of Henry Head with a member of the Head family still living in that part of England. Further information can be found in my previous posts on this forum (I won't repeat all of the information here).
Many people have attempted to tie Henry Head to the Head family living in County Kent, England. I think the Richard & Elizabeth you are referring to are are of this branch. I believe this connection has so much appeal because it is the only Head family with an official coat of arms. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the historical record supporting the belief that our Henry Head was of this line.
Happy Head-hunting,
Alan Head
