Helen M. Sonafelt, 90, of Latrobe,
died Tuesday, July 19, 2011,
in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.
She was born June 24, 1921, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Tall) Hauser. Helen was a member of Holy Family Church. She was retired from Latrobe Area Hospital. Helen was a totally devoted mother to her five children. Family was everything to her. She loved when everyone was together and was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always thought of everyone else and shared what she had. Helen's other love was going to bingo, where she had many friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Sonafelt;
a grandson, David A. Jackson;
five brothers, Johnny, David, Al, Joseph and George Hauser; and two sisters, Rosina Korzak and Catherine Berenbrok. Helen is survived by four daughters, Linda A. Elliott and her husband, James, of Latrobe, Sandra L. Jackson and her husband, David, of Latrobe, Pamela S. Pezzoli and her husband, Patrick, of Latrobe, and Kathy J. Sillaman and her husband, John R., of Latrobe; a son, William K. Sonafelt and his wife, Susan, of Irwin; a sister, Mary Bankovich, of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Ronald T. Elliott and his wife, Gina, of Zelienople, James C. Elliott and his wife, Jackie, of Latrobe, Martin T. Elliott and his wife, Tricia, of Latrobe, Christine Shaffer and her husband, Randy, of Derry, Ryan Pezzoli, of Latrobe, Justin R. Sillaman, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Erica Bower and her husband, Adam, of York, and Brandon Sillaman, of Latrobe; and seven great-grandchildren, Trevor Elliott, Samantha Elliott, Jacob Elliott, Max Elliott, Matthew Shaffer, Morgan Shaffer and Baby Boy Bower, due in September. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday in Holy Family Church with the Very Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney, VF, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery.
