Hi Sheila,
I was just checking my records for Rosa Wright. I found her married to Joseph Ferrell. This Rosa lived 1873-1910. I have no further info on her parents. On Joseph, his parents were John Ferrell (Died 1911) and Lucinda Tennant (1841-1920). Lucinda was the D/O Silas Tennant and Eva Haught. Eva is the D/O Tobias Haught & Abigail Moore. Silas Tennant is the S/O Joeph Tennant and Catherine Haught. It sort of keeps going. May I direct you to the Haught Family Of America Web-site, Specifically here: http://haughtfamilyofamerica.com/index_files/Page531.htm
Jay D.
Wow, Jay, how fascinating - DNA is so important to genealogy! We had a success with DNA in our Huggins line so I know how it feels to finally have proof of a relationship or non-relationship.

I'm related to the Haught line so it'll be interesting to see if (or how) there are changes once the corrections are shown on your site.

Thanks!
-dee

I'm Looking for Male Haught Descendants of Franklin Winfield Haught born 1915, Jacob Edward Haught born 1918, John L. Haught born 1919 and Warren L. Haught born 1921. These Persons are the sons of James Ashbee Haught born 1882. If you are descended from any of these Haught's, you can help with the Haught DNA Project. For more information click here: http://www.geocities.com/jayhaught/index_files/Page2059.htm

   Hi Dee,
You are absolutely correct. In my Web-Site I do show John and Jacob as son's of Peter 1. Because of the Haught DNA Project, we now positively know this is incorrect.
I am in the process of introducing an updated Haught Family Of America Web-Site. The new Web-Site will show Peter 1, John and Jacob as seperate unrelated lines of Haught's. I should also mention that even though these three men were not blood related, some of the children married into each others lines. So the first three generations are inter-connected through the marriages of the offspring.
I would also like to mention that the Haught DNA project has found 4 unrelated Haught lines to date. In fact I believe we have found six unrelated Haught lines, but I can only document four at this time.
Thanks Dee,
Jay D. Haught

Hi Jay,

The Haught Family of America site is great - so full of information! - but now I'm confused about your last post here.

You wrote that John Haught (b. 1760) & Jacob Haught (b. 1767) were not related to each other nor to Peter I... yet they are listed as Peter's sons on the site. Or are these different John & Jacob Haughts who just happened to have been born the same year as the non-related John & Jacob Haughts?

Thanks,
dee

Re: Wetzel County Haughts

  Hello R.Lowe,
I believe I touched ground on your question a few years ago, but cannot really remember now. First, Your great grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth (Haught)Deem is the daughter of my g-g-g grandfather Elias Haught born 1828. On to the subject. There were many Haught descendants living in and around Wetzel County that were either descended from Peter 1 (Haut)Haught born about 1720, John (Haut)Haught born 1760, & Jacob (Haut) Haught born 1767. These three persons are not related to each other and had many, many descendants. However, there were a few early marriages of the descendants of all three that were inter-mingled.
Since the inception of the Haught DNA Project in mid 2007, we have proved the above Haught's to not be related. In fact, I can prove four lines and believe I have found six in all.
I'm sure your mother has a terrific memory and I would never imply otherwise. However, it is possible for distant cousins to be raised in the same area and never know how they are connected. Especially when you start branching out to 3rd and 4th cousins.
None the less, your mother is correct in what she says, because there are descendants of John and Jacob living in Wetzel Co., and they are not related to your mother.
For more information on this, may I suggest you take a look at the "Haught Family Of America" Site here: www.geocities.com/jayhaught/index.html
You may e-mail me anytime - JayDHaught@Aol.Com
Jay D.
Hi Jay,
It's Jamie Straight. I sent you the photo of Benjamin Haught in uniform.
I figured out the Tobias connection about 14 hours after I posted the question.
The Haught genealogy reference I have was compiled by a W.B. Haught. I don't know when or where but my father had it for years before the internet. The original was 71 pages typed front and back. Would you know who W.B. Haught is/was? The only W.B. Haught in this compilation was the son of James C. Haught and Harriet Reeves and married Della Dougherty. All from the Joseph Haught line.

Jamie

Tobias Haught born 1788 is the son of Peter Haught (2) born 1755 and Christenia Yeager. This Tobias was married to Abigail Moore. Tobias Haught born 1790 is the son of John Haught born 1760 and Catherine Croushour. This Tobias married Catherine Hensel.
To my knowledge and in all my research, I never never found a Peter Haught married to Rebecca Tennant. That information was floating around the internet years ago. For more information on the Haught's. I suggest you see the "Haught Family Of America" Web-Site. www.geocities.com/jayhaught/index.html

Virgil Haught appears in the June 1921 "The Quill" as a Freshman II (Parkersburg HS yearbook). Typically that would have him graduating in June 1924. However, there is no listing for him in either 1924 yearbook (they were issued each semester then), so maybe he dropped out?

His sister Velma was a Junior I in the Feb. 1924 yearbook and a Junior II in the May 1925 yearbook, so she must have been one year younger than Virgil. There is also a Bernard Haught in the same books, as a Sophomore I and a Junior II respectively. Seems that Velma must've taken a semester or two off from H.S.? Bernard graduated in 1926, Velma isn't listed at all.

Hope this is helpful!

Angeline Pleassy Haught Gulley, their daughter was my maternal grandmother. I think I saw in the obituaries that Vincent Haught, my great uncle, your great-grandfather, recently died. I didn't get to the gathering due to a family situation, but would have liked to. I would like to get a lineage list together to pass on to my children.
Catherine -- I have that same William Haught in my family tree. However, I have his father as Benjamin Jackson Haught and his mother as Mariah Powell. I also have this William Henry Haught as being born in 1863 in Monroe, Ohio and died in 1946 (location yet unknown).

Hi Robbyn,
I am the grand-daughter of Okey, my ggrandfather was Eucebius. All my life growing up I was told we were Shoshone. Then years ago I spoke to the daughter of Luther (Eucebius' brother), for the life of me I can't remember her name..... anyway, she told me Crowfoot/Blackfoot. I have never been able to confirm any of this, this is just what family members have told me. I know this doesn't help either one of us. I had been told that the Native American Ancestry came from Edith Drucilla Price, but I don't know that to be a fact either. These are just stories I have heard. You are welcome to email direct at emgbell@aol.com.

Eve

Re: Homer Haught

Hello D Haught

I am Jeffrey Wayne Haught. Son of Harold Henry Haught. Grandson of Homer Harold Haught.

Dad's Mother was Opal Gladys Thompson Morris. Opal was my grandmother. She married Carl Morris and lived in the Northview section of Clarksburg.

AS I said I am Jeff Haught and my Dad , Harold Henry Haught died in 1971 of a massive heart attack.

Harold Henry Haught had 1 brother Jack Edwin Haught. Jack lived in Clarksburg during his young life and owned a small trailer park in Winter Park, Florida.

Jack Edwin Haught was married at least twice. My Uncle Jack died at age of 43 on the operating table. Doctor's were trying to do heart bypass surgery on Jack and he never made it through the surgery.

Our family was devastated. Jack married again to another Lady and her first name Maxine. Her family was from the Grafton area. I can't remember Maxine's maiden name.

Maxine had a daughter Julie. Jack and Maxine had 1 son, Jackie Edwin Haught Jr.

Maxine remarried a nice Gentleman whose last name was Parker and moved away from the beautiful Winter Park, Florida area. Winter Park is right next to Orlando.

Harold Henry Haught, (Dad's Father) was Homer Harold Haught , I have little information on Homer other than my what my Dad, Harold told me. He said his Dad, Homer Harold Haught, died in a train accident.

Homer worked for the B& O Railroad and died what I would call a horrible and very painful death. Homer was a brakeman for the railroad and got caught between 2 train cars . He lost his life trying to couple together 2 freight train cars. Homer was killed by the large couplers on the coal train railroad cars.

Homer was also an amateur prize fighter and fought under the name of "Dog Haught".

Sounds a bit odd but it is what I was told. I was barely 5 or 6 years old when my Grandmother Opal died.

Opal was a great cook and we enjoyed spending Sunday's after church eaing cherry pie. Opal had cherry tree's in her backyard and home canned her own. Our family were members of the United Brethren Evangelical Church in Northview, a sub-division of Clarksburg.

Carl Morris was my step Grandfather and Opal's second husband. Carl worked at the Hazel Atlas Glass Factory in Northview for at least 45 to 50 years. Carl lost his eyesight and received a real Blessing of a cornea transplant from the folks at the Philadelphia Eye Bank. When that cornea failed they replaced the cornea in his other eye. Carl was diabetic and didn't watch his blood sugar close enough. Two people gave Carl the gift of eyesight.

He is the reason I am signed up as an organ donor.

My mother's name was Kathleen Weber Haught. Our roots are in Central West Virginia in the Fairview / Fairmont / Clarksburg area. Also Uniontown, PA.

I am Harold Henry Haught's second son from his second marriage. Would you like to hear more ?

I do have family photos. My wife Jean and I live in Largo, Florida which is the Tampa Bay Area.

Our phone is 727-422-8388. I could scan and email you photos of Opal but I'm not sure I can find a photo of Homer Harold Haught. I am 59 and my wife Jean is 60.

It was a fluke that I stopped a read your post. I have quite a bit of history in my head and also photos.

I would like to find Dad's brother's son , Jackie Edwin Haught Jr. Somewhere in moth balls I have his Dad's Navy ring to give him. Our home telephone is 727-392-6290.

I usually don't answer the home phone but I do answer my cell phone. 727-422-8388.

If you call and get my voice mail Please leave a message, your name and phone number so I can call you back.

I am going through chemotheraphy for bladder cancer and sleep is when I can get it.

Our mailing address is 8909 85th ST., Largo, Florida 33777-3512.

Your post goes back to 17 July 2002. I just saw it doing a Google search looking up my name.

If I can be of further assistance on our family Please reply or call me.

God Bless You and God Be With You..

Thank You Kindly, Jeffrey Wayne Haught, son of the late Harold Henry Haught and grandson of the late Homer Harold Haught.

I have found pictures of Winnie Mae and Allen, I have several old pictures, would love to share with you. My grandmother was Sarah Belle Litman Riel. This is great, as I put together information for my grandchildren, I thought how nice this would be if I could pass along copies of the pitures. The orginial is fading and some are decaying. Hope to hear from you. I no longer live in W.Va. Marg

Are any of you aware of Native American blood within the Peter Haught I line? I've been told that there is, and I'm looking for names to make the connection. I'm a grand-daughter to Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of Martin.

Hello. It is nice to meet you. Thank you for responding to my post. My Great-Grandfather (Martin) and Great-Grandmother (Hannah) and others before them lived near Beatrice, West Virginia, at the Indian Creek community. If you would please share any information/stories/rumors you have about possible Native roots (locations, dates, Nation, etc.), my family and I would very much appreciate it.

Are you the Grand-daughter of Okey, or had you heard that this person could be of Native descent?

Robbyn

Gravestone of Peter Haught II

Thanks to Jay Haught and Bonnie Wilson, I was able to locate the gravestone of Peter Haught II (veteran of the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War). I took a couple of photographs of the stones and the 3 stone cemetery and they are published on my website.
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/o/b/Michael-R-J...
Peter's stone is extremely weathered, I forgot to bring colored chaulk and only had a mechanical pencil to highlight the lettering. The cemetery is located on the backside of a pasture about 400 yards from the road. You can barely see the small cemetery from the road, it is in a cutout from the undergrowth that surrounds the cemetery. Peter's stone, as you can note from the photographs, has been repaired and framed to prevent additional fracture. The other stones include a modern replacement for Christenia, his wife (located to left of Peter's stone as you stand facing forward center). The other stone. located to the right, is Catherine, wife of Joseph Tennant Born 1778 Died 1863. To approach the stone, I secured permission from the owner and had to drive through two pastures. I had to park my vehicle at the base of the hill and cross Jakes Run to climb up the sbort hill to the cemetery. I only posted three photographs of the cemetery on my website. Two of Peter's stone and one of the cemetery itself. I have others of the stone and the cemetery. I am a descendant of Peter Haught II, through his son, Peter Haught III. My third-great-grandfather, George Jobes married Esther Haught (daughter of Peter Haught III and Elizabeth Jenkins). I also have on my website a photograph of George Jobes and Esther Haught.
