I have been looking for relatives of my friend John Phillip Haught, his father was Robert Phillip Haught of Lumberport WVA. I located a Haught in WVA and was told that this line was from Wetzel County. Do you know of Robert, who may have died around 1976 and any of his living relatives?

Thank you,

Heather

In response to your request for information on John Philip Haught, posted over two years ago, he was my cousin. I am only one of two living relatives left. Philip passed away many years ago in California

I have been reconstructing the Haughts for years.(Since Abt 1973) I started the Haught DNA Project back in 2007. To date we have identified 4 seperate un-related lines of Haughts. I encourage you to become interested with the project and join the team. You can learn more here: www.geocities.com/jayhaught/index.html

Hi.

I'm trying to find information on James Franklin Haught - married to Malinda Fry - daughter Leora Naomi Haught. Leora married Wesley Warren Murphy, Sr. - my grandmother and grandfather. I've heard that James Franklin Haught was a full-blooded Indian - but I have no verification of that. If anyone here can help out - I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
"Murf"

Hello R.Lowe,
I believe I touched ground on your question a few years ago, but cannot really remember now. First, Your great grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth (Haught)Deem is the daughter of my g-g-g grandfather Elias Haught born 1828. On to the subject. There were many Haught descendants living in and around Wetzel County that were either descended from Peter 1 (Haut)Haught born about 1720, John (Haut)Haught born 1760, & Jacob (Haut) Haught born 1767. These three persons are not related to each other and had many, many descendants. However, there were a few early marriages of the descendants of all three that were inter-mingled.
Since the inception of the Haught DNA Project in mid 2007, we have proved the above Haught's to not be related. In fact, I can prove four lines and believe I have found six in all.
I'm sure your mother has a terrific memory and I would never imply otherwise. However, it is possible for distant cousins to be raised in the same area and never know how they are connected. Especially when you start branching out to 3rd and 4th cousins.
None the less, your mother is correct in what she says, because there are descendants of John and Jacob living in Wetzel Co., and they are not related to your mother.
For more information on this, may I suggest you take a look at the "Haught Family Of America" Site here: www.geocities.com/jayhaught/index.html

Hi Jay,

The Haught Family of America site is great - so full of information! - but now I'm confused about your last post here.

You wrote that John Haught (b. 1760) & Jacob Haught (b. 1767) were not related to each other nor to Peter I... yet they are listed as Peter's sons on the site. Or are these different John & Jacob Haughts who just happened to have been born the same year as the non-related John & Jacob Haughts?

Thanks,
dee

Hi Dee,
You are absolutely correct. In my Web-Site I do show John and Jacob as son's of Peter 1. Because of the Haught DNA Project, we now positively know this is incorrect.
I am in the process of introducing an updated Haught Family Of America Web-Site. The new Web-Site will show Peter 1, John and Jacob as seperate unrelated lines of Haught's. I should also mention that even though these three men were not blood related, some of the children married into each others lines. So the first three generations are inter-connected through the marriages of the offspring.
I would also like to mention that the Haught DNA project has found 4 unrelated Haught lines to date. In fact I believe we have found six unrelated Haught lines, but I can only document four at this time.
Thanks Dee,
Jay D. Haught
