I am searching for info re: the subject John Hastings and his family. The following is his obituary printed 29 Dec 1933 in The Daily Journal from Philipsburg, Centre, Pennsylvania.
"JOHN HASTINGS, SR., DIES AT NEW LIBERTY
Was Native of England, But Had Been a Resident of This Section For Many Years.
The death of John Hastings, Sr., which occurred at his home at New Liberty on Sunday after-noon, December 24, 1933, the result of infirmities incident to his advanced age, removed one of the oldest and best known residents of this section.
Deceased was born in Salop, England on June 21, 1852, making his age 81 years, 6 months and 3 days. He came to this country in his early manhood. On May 8, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Latz, the wedding taking place as Chester Hill, Squire McKernon officiating. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following sons and daughters, viz: John Hastings, Osceola Mills; Mrs. Annie E. Brown, Hudson; Nicholas Hastings, Hawk Run; Mrs. Katherine Twist, Hudson; William and Sue Hastings, New Liberty; Miss Mayme Hastings, Tyrone. A brother James Hastings, of Seward, and a sister, Mrs. Isaac Brown, of Barnesboro, also survives.
Mr. Hastings was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Philipsburg, and a gentleman whose many fine qualities endeared him to a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held from the family home on Wednesday, Dec. 27, in charge of Rev. C. S. Brown of Osceola Mills. Interment was made in the Philipsburg cemetery."
I believe his wife is my grand-aunt, Katharina Latz, born in Wadern, Merzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany in 1863, the daughter of Nicholas & Katharina (Feit) Latz.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
