I have a 3x-great-grandfather. Family information has him as John Hassett, b.c.1806, Ireland. In my searching.... I believe I have found accurate marriage information: John Hassen b.c.1806, m. Catherine Batersby (or Battersby or Batterby) 1835, Clonmellon Parish, County Westmeath, Ireland, possibly lived in Brownstown.
Daughter Ellen, or Eleanor baptized, father listed as John Hassen, with sponsors Hubert Hassan and Bridget Maguire. 20 Mar 1836.
Daughter Mary baptized: address listed as Brownstown, Co Westmeath, Ireland, Parents John Hassett & Catherine Batersby, sponsors Patrick Hassett & Ann Briody. Clonmellon RC Parish, Co Westmeath, Ireland. 26 April 1839. - We are fairly certain of an 1841 birth date. Could this be a different child? One who died young & the name reused? Note the Hassett sponsor.
Christening of baby Catherine: 6 Jun 1847 Clonmellon Parish, County Westmeath, Ireland. Of Brownstown, Co Westmeath, IRE, parents John Hassett & Catherine Battersby, sponsor Ellen Hassett.
DNA- I don't seem to match any Hassett, Hassan, Hassen at this point. I have several matches with others with McGuire ancestries (recall Bridget Maguire, sponsor, above). No Battersby matches but I assume it isn't a common name.
