I am looking for the parents of Nancy Bolt. She was my gg grandmother. I have been able to trace her from the 1850 census down ward, but nothing before that. After her first husband, AJ Harvell, died in the Civil War, she married my ancestor, William Nelson, and they had 3 children.
I would appreciate any help you could give me regarding this entire family. I have found that with 2 AJ Harvell's only a few months apart in age, things get crazy.

I have often wondered about the 3 children with Nancy & AJ in the 1860 census, now I know. Do you know where the children went after 1860? I suppose since AJ died, they went to live with his family, but haven't been able to find them.
Since you are from Marion's line, maybe you know.

Please know that I will be glad to send you any information I have. If Sally and Nancy are cousins or sisters, that would make us cousins! I have a picture of Nancy. She had at least 4 names, and appears on legal papers as Nancy R M M Nelson.
Looking for the parents of Lucy L. Green Harvell. Lucy was born in Arkansas on July 4, 1866 and died in Muldrow, Oklahoma on Dec. 7, 1954. She was related to the Warrens, Bennetts, McCubbins Families. Lucy married Thomas J. Harvell on July 29, 1883 in Roseville, Logan County, Arkansas. I have reasons to believe she was related to Samuel J. Green born 1825 in Missouri and died 1856 in Lewis, Tennessee. Samuel was married to Louisa Jemima Warren.
Any help would be appreciated in finding information on Lucy's parents and siblings.

Re: harvell in raleigh/garner/fuquay area NC

I am not in the Raleigh area but do have an interest in the branch of the family there. I suspect your family has been there a long time.

Cleo appears to have been a son of Clarence C. and Lula E. Harvell/Harwell.

On the 1930 census they are indexed as Harwell and live in the Middle Creek area, someone has suggested a correction on the Ancestry record to Harvell and offered that the middle name was Cleveland. The microfilm can be read either way but this is somewaht immaterial.

I assure you that almost all Harvells and Harwells are part of the same family. The spellings changed frquently until the widespread use of the typewriter and spread of literacy.
I am fairly certain, but can't prove, I am descended from a William Harvell who was in the Middle Creek, Swift Creek area from about 1770 to 1803 or so. At that time he sold his land and moved to Oglethorpe County, GA. After about 1850 my line started using the Harwell spelling - as they generally had in VA in the early 1700s.

William was in some way related to a Moses Harvell who lived adjacent to him for some 20 years before moving to Johnson County. He was also in some way related to a Thomas Harvell who seems to have stayed in the area. In 1805 Thomas married "Barbary Honeycut". Two former neigbors of William's signed the bond for the marriage.

I notice that in 1930 a Honeycutt family was listed about 6 enries from Clarence's family on the census page.

A little more work with the 1900 census shows 14 year old Clarence was listed among the 9 children of Robert and Margaret Harvell in the Middle Creek area. I lose the track after that and it is going to take some work to tie it all together.

I would like for you to answer a question for me. Is this Shirley Harvell the daughter of William Calvin Harvell and Mary. My husband is William Calvin Harvell, Jr. Sr was born in 1877 in Petersburg, Virginia. They lived in Belvedeer,NC.
My husbabd never met this family because he was born in 1937 to a different mother, named Emma Harrll from Rocky
Hock N C. The Shirly had a brother Woodrow a sister Thelma and one girl married a Puckett. Wish I could help but I do have a site called genealogy bank and can look for obits back to 1977. Let me know if this will help. Good Luck, Gale

Don't have my information right with me but you may want to study the Harvell family from Petersburg, Virginia. In the Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg there are numerous Harvell's. They do have listed a Byrd Harvell. In Mill Swamp Cemetery on the Out skirts of Smithfield, Virginia there is a Ransom Harvell there. When I was at Blandford Cemetery I ask the lady could I copy all the Harvell family they had. I was lucky because I learned they only let you do 1. Believe I wrote over 50. My husband is the son of William Calvin Harvell. You can look at my Harvell family. It might come up Bailey family. Put in Ernest Grant Bailey. Then look at the list of names and go to H for Harvell. Might can help a little. His grand father Andrew Allen and Melinda Carroll Harvell. Good luck,Gale

Re: David Crockett Harvell - North Carolina to Texas

There is a story that when David Crockett Harvell was only 4 years old their was an Indian raid on the the home, his father was killed, his 2 yr old brother left in front yard crying, he and his mother taken by Indians --somewhere into the Great Smokey Mountains to an Indian settlement where they lived until the mother died when he was 16. After the mother died the Indian Chief gave David food, a horse and a map showing him how to get back to where he had lived and sent him on his way. He never found any trace of any Harvells and no one knew of anyone by that name. He got a job on a farm and worked in that region (Edgefield, NC) until Civil War. He joined the Confederate Force and was at Appomatic Court House when General Lee surrendered in 1865.

There is more information available from my distant cousin and if you would like to send me your email address I would be glad to forward it on to him.

Good luck with your research.

I'm working on some of this same family. I've found George as far as the 1900 census ... it appears his first wife Catherine has died and he's with new wife Anna. Does that sound like the correct family? Children listed in 1900 were William, Thomas, Pearson ... all from his first marriage. Later I find a death record for a daughter, Martha Patsy, death date 1980 in Chatham County... birth year of 1904. It appears they've moved to Cumberland county in 1900 to work in the Saw Mill.
Due to the indexing variances I cannot find them in 1910. I'll be glad to share anything I find ... mrycckrll@hotmail.com

My grandfather was John Washington Harviel. Could this be the John you are speaking of? His parents were James and Elizabeth Harviel. James lived his early life in the NC area and had several brothers and at least 2 sisters. My grandfather was born in 1895 and was the third of 6 children for them. He died from a gunshot wound to the head in 1961 and is buried in the Marked Tree Cemetary in Marked Tree, Arkansas not far from Memphis, TN. His wife, a couple of his grandchildren and 3 of his children (including my father) are buried there as well. Please feel free to e-mail me should you have further questions pertaining to him or to my line. sharviel@charter.net

This is confusing but I have Harvell cousins who are related to my through our mothers and fathers.

John Marion had a son, John Thomas Harvell, who moved to and died in Marshall County, AL. He had five children, 1. Thomas Pleasant Harvell, 2. Emer I. Harvell, 3. Fred Nathan Harvell, 4. Belle Harvell, and William Taylor Harvell.

Taylor married Lora Lenderman and she was my mother's sister. They had three children, Gwen, Charles and Wayne. That make them my first cousin.

Now, they are also my third and fourth cousins because our Stephens line kept marrying into the family. Taylor and my Dad were cousins but before that John Marion married Pollie Stephens, a sister to my great grandfather, Nathan David Stephens.

Just thought you might like to hear where part of the Harvells went.
It is a church cemetery just as you are going into Ranburne, AL. It would be at the end of town coming from Interstate 20. Ranburne is so small I have only heard it called the Ranburne Cemetery. There are a good many graves there. The grave stone is just a small one and only the years of birth for John and Mary are given.

Gracie Harvell Null and Soloman Harvell

Looking for information on Gracie Harvell Null, the daughter of Soloman Harvell and Candie "Candey" Dailey. From what I understand that Soloman and Candie had twins; Grady and Gracie and son, Horace.

I have heard that Gracie Harvell married a Null and had two sons; Tom and Henry.

I have heard that Soloman Harvell died around 1950 in a Nursing Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. The Nursing Center was Oak Hill. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. I would assume from that calculation that he would have been born around 1869. He was a brother to George Harvell.

Old Family legend has it that Soloman Harvell had a second wife, Kennie, that he killed with a hoe. It is said that he chopped her in the head with it. He also killed a man in prison with an ice pick.

Would love to know more about this family and a picture of them if anyone has one they would be willing to share.

Gina Lollar
gialol96@yahoo.com

Hi! Thanks for responding to my post, but I do not believe that this is my George Harvell. Not too sure what cemetery he is buried in, but he is buried in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. He was born in 1876 in Alabama and died 10 September 1928 in Alabama. He was the son of Isom Harvell and Martha Crowder Smalley. He was married 1. Sarah Alice Allman, 2. Mary Kathryn Dailey.

You can email me with information on this line at gialol96@yahoo.com.

Gina Lollar
