I am trying to determine where Thomas Hartley from Otley/Bramhope Yorks disappeared to. No notes with me but he was the son of John Hartley and Susannah Bentley and was born about 1845ish.I believe I have him listed on the 1861 and 1871 UK Censuses but after 1871 he disappears. On the 1871 Census he is living in Harrogate with his married sister's family - her name Ruthetta (Hartley) Reed. It lists him as 27 and widowed but I do not know who he may have been married to? I believe Thomas may actually be my Great Great Grandfather BUT was never married to my Great Great Grandmother whose name was Annie Potterton. My research leads me to believe that Thomas may have been the man who got Annie pregnant in Harrogate; she registered the birth under the name Hartley calling herself Ann Hartley but there was no father listed. She was about 16 y/o at the time and may have expected to marry him but..... the child was later given up and raised by a family in Bradford Yorks named Preston. If anyone connects to the Hartley family from Otley that Thomas is from and knows what happened to him I would appreciate hearing from you.
