No. I don't believe the site was active more than a year at the most. Joe Harter's objective in starting it was commendable, but overly ambitious. He seemed to just have disappeared from the scene, so I suspected at the time that he had been disabled at best and more likely was gone. His objectives of a single genealogy could never have been achieved, as there are multiple sources of the name in Germany. Now that we are able to test YDNA we know that at minimum there are three distinctly different sources of families bearing the Harter name. At least 3 branches, including mine, came through Scotland to Germany. Another came from Northern Italy and one has Scandinavian background. I highly encourage any Male carrying the Harter name to contact Family Tree DNA (not associated with the genealogy program) and have his YDNA tested. Only in this way can we begin to sort out origins of the name and family associations.
