Could someone help me in tracing Thomas Harris in the 1861 census please. Thomas and wife Susan are in the 1851 in Leamington Priors Leicestershire with their family. I cannot find any record of them. Their daughter Elizabeth marries in 1867 in Leamington Priors and on the certificate it says Thomas is deceased. I cannot find any record for this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks June

I am Austin Columbus' great-granddaughter. I, too, am looking for information on John Wesley Harris. I have found information that says he was born about 1822 and died about 1895. I grew up in Bennettsville, but never heard that he was buried "where the post office sat". That doesn't mean anything except that it's interesting and I wish I had heard the story. Did you ever get any more information on him or his wife, Emily Powers, or their parents?

The children of Henry Harris and Mary Drew (6), West Harris and Amy Ware (11), and Claiborne Harris and Sarah Amelia Potts (13) are shown on many Ancestry.com and RootsWeb World Connect pages. All show the full names and dates of birth for all of these children, except a few try to stick in a Henry Harris Jr for Henry Harris and Mary Drew that never existed.
Their are also Bible records for many of Claiborne's sons and their families and at least one daughter's.

Greetings:

I am looking for any help regarding finding an obituary for Charles Clayton Harris, b June 1924 (MO) d Feb 1996 (Reserve, NM). He sometimes had "W" listed for his middle initial (not sure why). I've called the Reserve Library, and unfortunately they are too small to help, and none of the normal sources online have an obit. If anyone can assist, that would be greatly appreciated!

Dave

This book was published 18 yrs ago in 1995 so I wouldn't say it is fairly new. I have communicated with the author on several occasions about a few errors and incorrect assumptions on this line of Harris. It does not include any of the children of Henry Harris and Mary Drew including their son West Harris. The book is very accurate and well cited but does not contain further information that combines some of the lines now discovered by DNA testing that wasn't available when the book was written.

Rev. John Harris, bn 1725 in Cumberland NJ. Married in Maryland. His father nathaniel was also born in Cumberland NJ in 1693. Besides listed below, there is proof on "One Family Tree" and there are 48 family trees available thru Member connect that also list him as brn in NJ. John Harris being a very common name there are several family threads that came over.
Birth: Sep. 29, 1725
Somerset County
Maryland, USA
Death: 1790
South Carolina, USA

Family Data Collection - Births
about John Harris
Name: John Harris
Father: Nathaniel Harris
Mother: Elizabeth
Birth Date: 29 Sep 1725
City: Hopewell
County: Salem
State: NJ
Country: USA

John Harris
Spouse: Mary Dashiell Handy
F: (Name Unknown)

M: (Name Unknown)
Birth: 29 Sep 1725 - Cumberland, USA
Death: Apr 1790 - South Carolina, USA
Marriage: 1759 - Maryland, USA

John Harris was born September 29, 1725. There are conflicting reports as to the place of his birth; some reports say that he was born in Maryland, but this is possibly because his wife was from Maryland and he lived in Maryland before moving to South Carolina. He earned an AB degree at Nassau Hall (now Princeton University) in 1753. He served as minister to several churches in Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. While in Maryland, he met and married Mary Dashiell Handy, the daughter of Co. Isaac Handy and Ann Dashiell of Somerset County, Maryland. They eventually had several children:

What is your source for Rev John Harris being born in Cumberland, New Jersey? All known references gives his birth as East Shore, Maryland where his parents settled after emigrating. He did attend school in New Jersey at Princeton where he graduated from divinity school in 1753.

This is the family of Rev John Harris 1725-1790 who married
Mary Handy. This is covered in "Jane Harris of Rocky River" by Jenness Reese Reyes, 1964. It states the John Harris was born 29 Sep 1725/6 on East Shore Maryland, but another source says he came from Wales with his father and settled in Maryland.
If you're still there, I have corroborating information from "Ted's" post above. Joe Henry Harris and Lula Franklin Harris were married. He references that Annie Dell Harris copied the information from the family Bible and gave it to Granville Harris, her younger brother by 3 years. I have that Bible. Granville Harris was married to Zita and had a son, Thomas Donald Harris. Zita and Granville were later divorced, and as Ted mentions in the above thread, Granville then married Ruth Reed from Tacoma, WA. I am their son, Granville Reed Harris, born May 19, 1945. I do have other information so if you can, I am at 603-253-9158. All the very best, Reed.

Re: John Harris [1665-1711]

Since this relationship with Sarah Tyner that produced at least the three children named in his will, Harris, William and Sarah Tyner, while his wife Mildred was still living, it was more than just an affair. Mildred made no objections to this will so one could assume that she had full knowledge and gave her tacit agreement to this relationship. FYI, male Tyner descendants of this relationship have DNA markers that are exactly the same as descendants of John Harris male siblings. The 1711 will of John Harris leaves one-half of his estate to wife Midred Harris, so she was still living at that time and some of the bequests to the Tyner children are to be made after his wife's death, from her one-half share of his estate.
