"Robert G. Harris
Robert G. Harris of 160 Atlantic avenue and Harris Beach, died Monday at the Salem hospital, following a brief bout with pneumonia. At the time of his demise the deceased was 60 years old.
A native of Marblehead, he was the son of the late Samuel T. and Margaret (Orne) Harris. HIs family were large holders of realty in the West Shore development.
Mr. Harris was educated in Marblehead schools and later attended Harvard Dental school. Ill health forced him to discontinue his studies and take to an outdoor life. He served on the Marblehead Police force when the late Benjamin brown was chief, and later became employed in the Boston & Maine Railroad police force. In the latter position he was a familiar figure to commuters passing through the North Station.
His late brother, Samuel, was chief of police in Swampscott, for many years. Before his retirement several years ago, Mr. Harris was in the real estate business.
A short time ago he caught a cold, which developed swiftly into pneumonia. He was taken to the Salem hospital last week, and died there after complications set in.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella F. (Brooks) Harris, a son Robert F. Harris of Marblehead; a daughter Mrs. Martha Hastings of Hyannis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Nichols funeral home at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Oliver Wiese officiating. committal was in Waterside cemetery with Mr. Wiese reading committal prayers."
