HI! Joining the Family Tree DNA Project is a great way to discover more about your Harmon family line. E-mail me at CathyHrmon@aol.com and give me a little info on your MD line. Notice there is no "a" in Harmon in the above e-mail. I can send you a join notice where you can order the y-chromosome kit for a male relative to test. It just requires swabbing the inside of the cheeks and you send the kit back to FTDNA.

I don't have the specific information you are seeking but your post caught my interest because I am also seeking information on Harmons on the Eastern Shore of MD. My grandfather and sibling, Pierce, lived in Somerset County, MD, which is not far from Worcester County. I have conflicting information from the 1930 census of their race. Ancestry.com has them listed as white but the copy of the 1930 census states not white.

Have a Benjamin Harmon as the basis of that side of the family. Do have relatives that relocated to the Oklahoma / Kansas area and disappeared from our lineage. Do also have relatives of Palmer but will have to do some checking to see if connected to Harmon or other sides. Maternal Grandmother did quite a bit so the Harmon side is relatively blank.

I really am clueless as to very many names. I just know that My husbands grandmother's name was Sara, not sure of spelling and I thought her husband was Alan. They had several children, one girl Edna M to Heiney Largent 1 son Eldon. My father-in-law was Edison Hoye Harmon.B 8-12-1905 Born in Uniontown PA. Another brother Nells or Nelson, no children Maybe a brother Oscar or Clifford or both.
Bedford PA would be close to the right area I think. Not much to go on but they stayed in PA. Any of these familiar?
Let me know
Annette

Hi Annette:

All i have is what i found on ancestry.com and i thought i had the 'correct' John Harmon. Until someone else attached 2 of the cencus records to some one in their tree. Unfortunately both of us know more about the WIFE's of a John Harmon. The records are: 1900 & 1910 US Fed Census and 1910 Mirco in Napier, Bedford, PA and 1920 Fed US Census Juniata, Bedford PA. JOHN H HARMON. with a wife Sarah and children. The 1910 cencus record on ancestry.com reflects - i think - wrong info but the IMAGE shows John H Harmon with his family Ella S, Clarence and Roy. 1900 & 1920 have wife listed as Sarah. Could you look at and see if maybe you have a clue? Thanks so much - Patti
Hi, I don't have an account with ancestry.com anymore, thus it is difficult to respond to people who contact me via ancestry.com's message board with an email. I was contacted today by someone living in Michigan about Clara Mickelson and her mother Oline Bakken Mickelson Gordon. Turns out that person is my fifth cousin. My database is online at rootsweb.com. Enter the name Floyd Harmon, click search, click World Connect on the next page, scroll down to my jstopper2008 database, click on the name Floyd Harmon. Floyd married Alma Ellen Cooper in Tuscola County, Michigan. They had Robert Edward Harmon in June 1928 and Virginia in 1930. Going back to Oline Bakken - she first married a Mickelson, given name unknown. She's in the 1880 census for Blue Mounds, Dane Co., Wisconsin, widowed with two children: Clara, 4 and Ole, 2. IN about 1883 she married Teman Gordon. They had a bunch of children. I'm intertwined and related to all of these families in western Dane County, WI. Currently live in Colorado. Please contact me at my email lizzyb@aol.com with your questions and comments. Type "MICKELSONS in Dane County" or something familiar in the search box so I won't delete thinking it's spam. Please do NOT contact me via this message board. Use my email. Tanks.

Niza Harmon 1898

I am looking into the family of Napoleon Harmon and found hid daughter Niza or Nizzie, as she was called. My father's birth certificate dated 24 Jul 1927 lists Nizzie as his midwife and her place of residence as Cassieville(now Tripp) W>VA. Since my great grandmother Jenny Mills Harmon Horn was married to Ben Harmon who's father James was Napoleon's brother, I thought that this is probably the Nizzie Harmon I am looking for. Also the name is so uncommon and I haven't been able to pull up any other Niza Harmons on Ancestory. If anyone knows anything about Niza Harmon, I would love to hear from you.

Matthew Smith Harmon & daughter Amanda

Contrary to what some have recorded, Matthew Smith Harmon did not move to Arkansas and die until after 1870.

1870 Census dated Oct. 26: Lafayette Co., MS Township 6, page 20, Tyro Post Office
MS (Matthew Smith) Harmon & wife Mary. The next household contains three of their children --David Z, Margaret E, and Thomas.

Where are their other children, particularly Wesley and Amanda, their youngest two? I know for a fact that Amanda isn't dead, nor has she moved to Arkansas. She marries John Wells (see Lee Co. MS 1880 census), and when he dies she marries Richard F. Stepp in Union Co., MS in 1888. They have my grandmother, Millie Stepp, and two sons. By the late 1890s they've moved to Van Zandt Co., TX where Amanda dies around 1912.

Does anyone have any idea where Amanda and Wesley were in 1870? I assume they were with other relatives, but I can't figure out where or why.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Ellen

Both of them were from Virginia. William Harmons parents were Thomas Harmon and POlly Demoss. Both of them were from Kentucky. Also, William and Indianas daughter Hannah Alford Harmon married Virgil Alford. Also from Daviess County Indiana

Re: Michael Harmon/Margaret Trump

Good morning, Velma - Would you please tell me where you found a 1774 passenger list for the "Richard and Mary" that shows Michael Harmon as a passenger? All I've been able to locate so far is one passenger list for that ship in 1754. Also, I checked the Revolutionary War records on Footnote.com trying to find Michael Harmon but they have nothing on him. What battalion did he serve in "from May 5, 1777 to 1781 under Capt. Benjamin Fishbourne?" Many thanks in advance for your help with this.
