Conrad Harkrider/Harkrader/Harkreader

I need help finding Conrad's date of death. According to all of the trees on ancestry and several other websites. His date of death is given as the exact same day as his brother John. Nov 24, 1837. John's death date is given on his pension records. So either there was some tragedy that befell both brothers on the same day OR Conrad's death date is incorrect.

Any clues at all will be extremely helpful.

Thanks!
Debbie

Yes Hergeroder (sic) goes back to Germany. I have all this on my old computer but my daughter still hasn't gotten around to rescuing my info from the hard drive for me. when and if she does it will be posted to FamilySearch so I don't have to go through this again. I am currently inputting info and redoing all my research. But when I get there I will let you know what I have.
I also heard Hiram Sinnamon came from Spain, from Susie Harkrader the great-grand-daughter of John Wilburn Harkrader and Clara Bell Cinnamon.
I had very little on Hiram, but, I'm curious so I made a little more effort and found some info on him. He was a stone mason.
On her census records Clara claimed her father was born NY then later it was CT; her mother was born in England.
I found records for a Hiram Leonard Cinnamon who was born 1812 Connecticut, and his parents were Peter and Elizabeth.
I just found a marriage record naming Hiram Sinnamon and Collins as the parents of Mrs. Typhena Fritts as marrying a Kyle.
I found Hiram on the 1880 and he claims that he was born 1820 in Connecticut so perhaps it was his father that came from Spain. He's also on 1870 as born 1813 Connecticut.

You know how family stories are, sort of like a game of "Telephone", one person wispers something to you, then you to the the next person and so on until it is totally distorted. I'll keep looking.

Do you have all this info? I can tell you where it came from if not. Perhaps you have info that I don't.

TTFN and Good Hunting,
CW Carlile
Texas

I also found out Sarah was born in 1810

My farm is some of the old Harkrader place-- Solomon, Thomas, John (one side), and Isaac (other side). It is out past the hospital in Wytheville. I live in Black Lick on the old Lloyd farm. Samuel Lloyd married Nancy Harkrader, Solomon's (1) sister. Rachel Harkrader, Solomon's(2) daughter lived with them a lot.I have some old family records.(birth dates, pictures etc.) Solomon's old house has long ago been torn down. I think times were so hard there that when grandson John built his house about 1/2 mile away, the old place was forgotten. The Harkrader cemetary is near the old house site.

There were at least three Solomon Harkraders. Two are buried in the cemetary on my farm. Conrad's son Solomon was born in April 12, 1775 and died about 1847. His son Solomon was born in 1811 and died 1860. His son Solomon moved I think to Dobson, NC. Conrad's Solomon had only four children that I can account for--Solomon, Thomas (my line), William, and Elizabeth. There was a John that I once heard moved to Ohio, but I don't know for sure.

Anna Maria Dehoff

Anna Maria Dehoff, the daughter of Johann Philip Dehoff, was the second wife of Johannes Heregereder (I like Harkrader much better - fewer 'e's to remember). She probably had a brother Nicholas who also moved to Maryland in the 1760s from Berks Co, PA.

Do you have any verification of Anna Maria Dehoff's lineage beyond the marriage record? Does anyone have record of other Dehoff's who may have stood as sponsor, etc...for Anna Maria and Johannes' children?

Nicholas Dehoff is a mystery and a problem for a large number of Dayhoff researchers and we hope an answer may be found through Anna Maria.

Annette DeHoff

Rita,

I don't know much more about Henry born in 1755. Nicholas Dehoff, brother of Anna Maria, moved to Maryland at the same time Johannes Hergereder disappeared from Berks Co, Pennsylvania.

http://hometown.aol.com/midmdroots/carroll/cemeteries/winter...

Burial information for Johannes and Maria -- this is only 15-20 miles from Woodstown where Nicholas Dehoff relocated after leaving Berks County.

1790 in Frederick County, Maryland -- Henry Hargwager (1 male over 16, 2 females) is only a few families away from Henry Dahoof (2 males over 16, 2 females). I am not positive who this Henry Dahoof is, but we believe that Nicholas Dehoff of Berks County was related in some way to the DeHoffs of York Co, Pennsylvania and Frederick and Carroll Counties in Maryland.

I hope this helps...here is my DeHoff website although Nicholas is not mentioned there (he is another branch of the tree).

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~dehoff/dehoff/index.htm

Hi Annette,
Would you have any information concerning what appears to be Johannes Herrgeroder & Anna Maria Dehoff's oldest child. I believe his name was Johann Heinrich born January 14, 1755. Did he live to adulthood, marry, have children? Did he stay in the area of where his father died. Heinrich would have been 19 yrs. old at the time of his father's death.
The reason I ask is that my husband's oldest [connected] ancestor is one Henry or Henri HAREREYDER [he signed his name as such, as a witness to a marriage that took place on 29 July 1813]. The name has evoled in this area of south Louisiana to HARGRODER. Although I have not come up with a birth date for our Henri, other files show his birth date as being abt 1755, which happens to be Johann Heinrich's birth year.
Also, in birth records of our Henri's children, his parents are named as John Hargroder [and other last name spellings] & Marie...sometimes Mary Thehauth [and other last name spellings].
I have just recently come across the names of Johannes Herrgeroder's, who arrived on the Elisabeth in 1733, two wives. His second wife Dehoff and the name thehauth/tehaut, when pronounced could sound very similar.
Any help in this area of research would be most welcome. Thanks, Rita

The name you should be looking for is "Harkreader". The name was originally Herrgroeder, but has been spelled Hargrader, Harkrader, Harkrider and most commonly Harkreader. This is my mother's maiden name. I have data going back to the our fist ancestor Johannes who arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Eliza" on Aug 27, 1733 from Rotterdam.
Somewhere in my data, I have seen the name "Repass" etc. I will look further if you are interested.

From research in PA, I have Susannah Mari Harkreader (Hargrader and other spellings) as the daughter of Johannes Herrgeroder and Dorethea Manneschmidt.
She was born March 4, 1853 in Berks County PA.
As you have stated, she married 1st Jacob Palus (died c. 1770) then 2nd Phillip Trine (who died before 1794).
I assume this because Susannah "Trine" signed by herself without her husband, a deed along with her brothers, Benjamin, Issac, Jacob and sister Catherine "Hillibridle and Soloman Hillibridle selling part of their father "John Hargarider" land in Sept of 1794.
Other than this, I have little information on her.

E-Mail me at billamiller@juno.com

The proceeds from the sale were to be divided among a number of Harkrider children and grandchildren (all named in the papers).

As you have indicated, Conrad's father Johannes Herrgeroder (aka John Hargrader of Frederick Co. MD) came to Philadelphia from Rotterdam, by way of Dover England on the ship Elizabeth captained by Edward Lee. He arrived sometime around August 27, 1733. In researching the Harkreader/Harkrader/Harkrider family over the past 12 years, I have seen him referred to as a "Palantine" several times but have never seen any reference to a specific place or location in Germany. If you should find anything about a more specific place in Germany, I would be most interested.
You can contact me at billamiller@juno.com Thanks.

thank you so much for responding. Conrad came to Virginia from Frederick, Md., receiving land as pension for serving in Revolutionary War. The name has been spelled several ways. What I want to find is where they came from in Europe, as I go to Germany fairly often and would like to look it up.They came on a ship from Rotterdam to Philadelphia, lived near there a while, migrated west to Frederick, MD,lived there until after the war, and then went with many others who were awarded land in Virginia for their war service to lands given them in Virginia. I will write more in the new year, and please send me what you know or even think you know! Merry Christmas, Sarah.

I am the direct descendant of Solomon Harkrader who went to Dobson, NC. He married Letitia Norman, and I have portraits of both of them. He is buried in Dobson in the town cemetery. They had numerous children, Lacy Lloyd Harkrader being my grandfather, and Winfred Trent Harkrader my father. I have portraits of Solomon and his wife and some unidentified family pictures from the 1860 era. Where is your farm, where are they buried? I am often in Mt. Airy, NC and Charlottesville Va. There was a Barbara Waggonner in the family records. I am still trying to find out where the original Harkrader came from in Germany or Switerland. Please keep in touch, as you are the closest relative I have found so far. Are you in the Black Lick area of VA?

Hi John I'm Stacy and I was wondering if you could help me. Do you know of a Sarah Harkrader/Harkrody/Harkerody/Harkrider? Her father may have been Bejamin. Acording to my family tree album it states "The 1830 Indiana census also showed Benjamin Harkerody(variant spelling's: Harkrody; Harkrider; Harkrader), whose family seems to be Sarah's although she herself was Ohio-born. Please email me back at stacy.thomas81@yahoo.com

Is the Paulus family related to the Nicholas Paulus
who married Margaretha Mueller and had William
Daniel Powless b. 1776 in PA?
