Regarding the two Swartwout children ... the 9-year old son returned to NJ and told authorities that Benjamin Springer, a white man, was with the Indians and that it was Springer who killed or participated in the killing of his father. Springer was tried, convicted, and hung. I don't know if the young Swartwut boy went back to live with Indians or not.
I don't think the Swartwout daughter stayed with the Indians and married an Indian chief. I believe at some time she returned to Sussex Co., NJ and married a Cortrecht. When Bernardus Swartwout wrote his will in 1773, he gave 20 pounds to his granddaughter Neeltje, daughter of his deceased son Anthony. Helen Graves
