I am a Hardister descendent and have traced my lineage to Benjamin Hardister born 1785, died 10/20/1861. His Father might have been Benjamin B.Hardister born 1760. My family lived in the Macon, MO area from around the 1820's to 1950. Please let me know if you can fill in any spaces in my family tree?

Thomas Hardister Tennant is also my great, great, great grandfather. I don't know if you're still exploring this site, but please let me know if you are. It would be awesome to exchange information. I have copies of about 20 letters that he and his many children wrote, dating all the way back to the late 1800s and the early 1900s.

Hopestell HARDISTER reportedly was born in Tennessee ca 1813. She married (1) Benjamin Young CARNAHAN ca 1833 in Arkansas, and (2) Abraham B. TAYLOR ca 1845 in Marion County, Arkansas. QUESTIONS:

1) Has anyone confirmed who her parents may have been?

2) Is there a known date and/or location of her death?

3) One source lists (a) Hopstill Elizabeth HARDISTER born 1 July 1808, in Randolph County, North Carolina to Samuel H. HARDISTER and Rebecca LANIER. I have an undocumented given name for this person as "Hopestell." Are these two different people or the same person, if anyone knows for certain...educated guess?

James Buckner Hardister

I'll contact you directly. James B. HARDISTER was born ca 1906 in Arkansas, and died 13 October 1942 in Jefferson County, Arkansas (I have NOT personally confirmed this). His father was Street Monroe HARDISTER and Ollie Unknown.

I graduated from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, High School in 1956 with Rex and Kay Hardister, brother and sister (twins). We went 1st to 12th grade in same class.
They had an older step-brother Jim Reed.
Just wondering what happened to them over the years.Rex was president of our Sr. class and star athlete.

you need to remember that people who had TB in those days were often put in an assylum in the later phases of the illness. So, it doesn't mean they were insane

The Rev. Thomas H. Tennant was my 3rd great grandfather. His daughter, Sinah Harriet Tennant, was my 2nd great-grandmother. Rev. Tennant died at the age of 114 yrs., 9 mo. and 14 days.

Hi, working on a friend's Hardister Heritage, her name is Rachel Neitzel. Rachel was adopted at an early age and is just learning her Hardister roots. Chester "Orbie" was her great grandfather. I've been working on the Hardister connection for several years with other researchers. We haven't come up with anything yet, even working from the angle of it being a family name. No records found yet telling us who his parents were. Have you and I corresponded before?... I'm a historian and have been working with descendants of about 5 of the Tennant children. I'd like to hear from you if we haven't.

In your file you show 8-Clement, B:ca 1813 NC. D:? M:ca 1835 NC Ruth Russel. Do you have any information regarding Ruth Russel's parents or other family members and the state where she married Clement Hardister?

I have the following Hardister marriages in my lines:

Belle Hardister married Morgan Davis Coe (January 16, 1861) Independence Co. Arkansas. I have them listed with children: Minnie and James Coe.

Also, Robert Lawrence Newsom, son of Thomas Lawrence Newsom and Susan Agnes Howse, (Haywood Co. TN) married Martha Henrietta Kelso in Haywood Co. TN and their daughter Ora Elizabeth Newsom married Ray Hardister. Hope this helps.

I received an email from you a good while ago. I don't remember if I answered-- I am looking for info on Joseph Allen. Joseph was father of Sallie Allen,who married Lendo Hardister. Sallie was my aunt,tho I don't remember a lot about her. Her brother, Elisha, was my daddy. Daddy died 1946 and I was very young when he died. From what I have heard all my life, Daddy didn't talk about his family- So some of his family's whereabouts were unknown at his death. I was wondering if you have any info on Joseph- his parents, where he was born,if he had any siblings,what kind of work he did, when he passed away and where he is buried. Orbie Hardister was the older brother of my g-grandmother Josie E Hardister. She married Thomas Knott and they lived in Saline Co. Mo. until he died in 1921. She and her 4 children then moved to Springfield, Mo.

Josie Hardister was my g-grandmother. She was a sister of Orbie. I have quite a bit of information. I can e-mail some of it to you, but since I don't have a scanner, I may have to send some of it by snail-mail. Most of it I got from others of the Hardister clan, mainly Micky Jones. She was going to send me some additional info, but I never got it, and have not heard from her. You possibly have some I don't have. Trying to find pictures of Josie, her husband Thomas Knott and their children.

I am researching my g-grandmother's Josie Elm Hardister) family. She had a brother that my great aunt called "Orby" that moved from Saline Co. Mo. to San Francisco and worked as a longshoreman. Their parents were James H. and Nancy Isabelle Hardister. My grandfather, (Josie's son) Marvin Knott told me that 1 or 2 of his sons also worked along the docks. Could this be the same Orby (Orbie)?

My mother was a Hardister...Her father was James Buckner Hardister, mother was Eunice Bridges Hardister. My mom's grandfather (my g.grand) was Street Monroe Hardister. Kennedy, is the middle of 3 children. We have been told there were several Hardister brothers who came this way from North Carolina and were Clothing Tailors by trade.

After graduation...Rex went to college, where he graduated Sum Cumlaude (spelling?) joined the Navy and did a tour during peace time...much better than now. It was during this time that he met his wife, Marilyn. They married and had three children, two daughters and a son. They were resideing in Houston. All three of their children are now grown with children of their own. However, Rex never got to see any of his grandchildren as he passed away almost twenty years ago with cancer of pancreas and liver. His was a great loss and is still greatly missed, especially by Kay. Twins have a greater bond than most people.

Kay is my mom. She stayed in Pine Bluff and went to work at Simmons Bank. She met and married my father in 1958, who also had attended Pine Bluff HIgh. They resided in Pine Bluff until he graduated from Ark. A&M in Monticello. We moved to Dallas, in 1960. Dad taught several years for Dallas, then quit to work for Texas Instruments, where he retired from several years ago. Mom worked for Sears and Roebuck for many years. She is also retired. They had two children, my brother and myself. They have 4 grandchildren and are expecting their first great grandchild in late April.

It is always neat to hear from people that they went to school with. When we would visit in Pine Bluff, mom would take my brother and I through the old high school. I loved walking through the building. It had a lot of character, and personality. Of course, it is no longer standing and has been replaced by a school without personality, or character. I know that mom will ask what you have been doing wihen I tell her I recieved this from you, so, could you please tell a little about yourself.?

D. L. HARDISTER Died on Monday At His Home Here

Funeral services for Dock Lane HARDISTER well known and highly esteemed citizen who died Thursday afternoon at 3:00 at his home on South Main Street were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 conducted by Rev. F. J. Burroughs, friend of the deceased. Burial followed in the city cemetery.

Mr. HARDISTER was 80 years, 7 months, and 13 days of age at his death, having been born on October 10, 1854 in Randolph Co., a son of the late Clem and Ruthie RUSSELL HARDISTER, prominent Randolph co. family. As a young man, he engaged in mining and later in teaching school in Randolph. He was married to Miss Mary Frances CLODFELTER. The family moved to Lexington 42 years ago and Mr. HARDISTER engaged in cotton mill work. About ten years ago he retired with a comfortable accumulation of savings. He was a member of the local council of the Junior Order.

Surviving are the widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Eula T. McCULLOCH, L. A. HARDISTER, Mrs. J. C. YARBOROUGH, Charles HARDISTER, Mrs. R. E. CLIFTON, and Ernest HARDISTER, all of this city. One brother, E. L. HARDISTER, of Greensboro, 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Five children of Mr. and Mrs. HARDISTER preceeded him in death, all of these in infancy save, George, who died several years ago.

Mr. HARDISTER was a well liked man, kind and just, with a splendid reputation among many friends and relatives.

L. A. HARDISTER, 69, Passes At Local Hospital

Lendo A. HARDISTER, 69, of Lexington, R. 3, retired textile employee, died at 2 p.m. yesterday at Lexington Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for five weeks.

Born July 30, 1883, in Randolph Co., he as a son of Dock L. and Frankie CLODFELTER HARDISTER.

He was employed as a second hand in the warping department of Erlanger Mills for 30 years before his retirement in April 1951.

He was a member of Lodge 168, Nocomis Tribe of the Improved Order of the Redmen, and a member of the board of stewards of Ebenezer Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sallie ALLEN HARDISTER of the home; one son by a former marriage, William HARDISTER; another son, Edward Dermont HARDISTER of Lexington, R. 4; one daughter, Mrs. James BIESECKER of Lexington, R. 4; one brother, Charlie HARDISTER of Lexington; and three sisters, Mrs. J. W. McCULLOCH; Mrs. Cleve YARBOROUGH, and Mrs. Ed CLIFTON of Lexington.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Methodist Church by the Rev. James Hornbuckle, Jr. The body will lie in state at the church from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body was taken to the home at 11 a.m. today.
