Hi Pat - Wish I had your email but I'll go ahead and post this info - looks like some of your info may have been mixed up...Here's what our records reflect:He was not a
school teacher. He owned and operated a livery stable in Clairmount, Texas.
I have a copy of a picture of the livery stable. He was shot and killed there. I have an orginial copy of a newspaper dated 5-9-1901 where he did kill a best friend but he never went to prison. The killer was the
son-in law of Ben Hardin. (John Snowden) Ben C. was a cousin to Jeff. It
did say that he added a beer hall to the stable and they did gamble there.
Jeff also was a Scalper for a ranch. Jeff married Ida May Croussore on 10-24-1887 in Lipscomb Co., TX. Their children: John Wesley, Mattie Belle and Della Lillian (Mary died as infant)Divorced abt 1895-He did marry Mary Jane Taylor on 10-26-1896 in Junction, Tx. His first born was Joseph Gibson Hardin, Cleburn and Jeff Davis.I have no idea who Clarice is. Jefferson had died by the time Jeff Davis was born.I found some information on Pearl Turner. The one Jefferson was supposed to have eloped with. She married Barnett Gibson Hardin on 1-17-1898.Most of this info came from Cleburn Hardin's daughter - we correspond often- email me at myegge@earthlink.net -Good luck to you.
