I believe my g-granfather Bartholomew was born about 1840. His wife Mary was a widow in the 1901 census. John was married to Bridget in 1855 so I suppose he'd have been born in 1835 or thereabouts. I have not found their parents' names yet or other siblings. The name Bartholomew or Bartley seems to have been common in the family. Bartholomew had a son by that name born in 1877. John had a Bartley born in 1875.
