Born January 16, 1829, Rosenthal (by Marburg), Hesse Kassel.
Departing Bremen, Germany, she sailed for America on the Vessel Bark Hahnemann, arriving on October 18,1852. Time of passage to Baltimore was 42 days.
Daughter of Frederick Vaupel and Lena Langenfeld, oldest of 3 boys and 4 girls, she was induced to come to America by a brother, Christopher, who was an adventurous character and settled near Cumberland, Maryland.
Marie married William (Wilhelm) Dittmar 23 Jul 1853, Cumberland Maryland. Relocated to Pittsburgh, PA before 1860.
