Hello Tiffany, There are a limited number of people in the USA with the last name of Biedler. I thought I knew them all. But I know very few whose FIRST name is Biedler.

However, there was an Albert Biedler Heltzel in my extended Biedler family and I am told folks called him Biedler, not Albert. He was born July 22, 1911 in Otterbein, VA. and, I am told, was postmaster of Harrisonburg in 1948. He married a Ruth Ella Miller. They had one child who I think may have been adopted.

He had two sisters, Mary Magdalena Heltzel and Grace Virginia Heltzel. Mary was born Nov 28, 1909. Grace was born May 9, 1914. His mother's name was Lura Elizabeth Biedler, daughter of Daniel Ulrich Biedler and Mary Ellen Rosenberger of Timberville, Va near New Market, VA.

Unfortunately, I know of no one with the last name of Wetzel in my family tree.

Sorry it took me so long to find this message! O maybe I answered it 12 years ago and just don't remember! Ha! Anything is possible these days!

Karen Biedler Alexander

Yes, we are related. My line is thru your Jacob's brother, Robinson Hanger who married Sarah Ann Patterson. This Robinson Hanger and Sarah are my 3rd gr-grandparents. I have found them in the 1850 and 1860 census in Augusta Co., VA.

In 1870 and 1880 Sarah Patterson Hanger was living with her son Wm. .A. Hanger in Randolph Co., WV. After that she must have returned to Staunton, as there is a letter dated Sept. 2, 1888 postmarked Staunton, written from Sarah to my gr-grandmother, Laura Hanger Roy. Sarah's daughter Mary Hanger Smith added a short note to the letter, so Sarah probably lived with her at the time. Mary Hanger Smith later died in Randolph Co., WV in 1923, and I have a family photograph that includes her around 1915.

In 1870 and 1880 I found a Robert/Robertson Hanger in the census in Franklin Co., Tennessee. He has a much younger wife named Nancy Jane, and several children. From the children's ages and birth places it appears they moved from Virginia to Tennessee between 1864 and 1867. It is possible that this might be the same Robinson Hanger, with a new wife and family, but have not been able to make a definite connection. Sure would like to know more about this one.

Children of Robinson Hanger & Sarah Ann Patterson:

1. William Robinson Hanger (1839-1847)

2. William A. Hanger (1840-1922), m. Margaret/Maggie Schutterle (1846-1907), 10 children

3. Mary Jane Hanger (1843-1923), m. Risdon Smith (c1829- d. bet 1870-1880), 2 children

4. Emma O. Hanger (c1849- d. after 1910), m. James P. Daniels (c1840- c1910), 7 children
(Emma and James in San Francisco, CA for 1900-1910 census)

Hi Cathy,
Re your Post of 7/30/03..
It's 4 yrs later but maybe this may be of interest.
My gm Ada Pearl RALSTON (later married John Tilden SILLING) born 1877 in the Churchville/Staunton (Augusta Co.). I have a letter from her telling me a story about a Mr. HANGER who was partner of her fathers. Her father John RALSTON owned a grist mill in that area and her brief story was about that HANGER family tho lived in "town" (which could have been either Churchville or Staunton) circa 1887. No first names of that HANGER family was mentioned. If your Hangers who were millers by trade were still in that area then...wouldn't that be something?
Stuart

Hi Penny. I guess I never checked back about this post!! It's been 7 years. Not possible! Obviously, I have been busy elsewhere....like in my quilt history research.

I am not related to the Hanger Family. I am related to the BIEDLER Family of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. There is a Biedler Heltzel in the family. On a previous post in 2003 someone mentioned a Biedler Weltzel. I thought it might be a typo because the family history I have says Biedler Heltzel. Biedler was his first name and Heltzel was his family name. I know it is Heltzel for sure. They lived in Rockingham county. They gave our Biedler family name to him as a first name.

Trying determine the parents of Peter Hanger, born circa 1816 (died in 1898 in Douglas County, NE), married in 1845 to Charity Evans in Clinton County, MO. Family tradition and his own statements indicate that he was born in VA and his father's name was also Peter. His granddaughter states that his father (parents?) died when he was young and he was raised by his grandmother. In early adulthood, came to Missouri and appears on the 1840 census listing birthplace as VA. Please feel to contact at 402-753-9336.

H. L. "Jack" Hanger

Re: James W. Hanger 1810

There are great problems in correctly identifying the links between the Hangers and the Robinsons. To begin with both Field Robinson Sr. and Obedience Bradshaw, and Field Jr. and Keziah Scruggs had daughters named Nancy and Obedience. I’m afraid the Obedience you mention, b. 1779, was the daughter of Field Sr., not Field Jr. Field Jr. and Keziah Scruggs were not married until 1784, and their oldest child was born in 1785. Their daughter Obedience was born about 1790.
But since George Hanger, b.1775, and Obedience Robinson were married in 1799 and had their first child in 1800, this would seem to eliminate Obedience, daughter of Field Jr., who would only have been about 9 years old in 1799. But Obedience, daughter of Field Sr. is shown in his will as Obedience Nichols, and there is a Nichols tree on the web that claims John Nichols married Obedience Robinson, daughter of Field Robinson Sr., and Obedience Bradshaw.
Jacob Hanger, b. 1773, married Nancy Robinson in 1798. This leads to problems similar to Obedience and that Nancy would have been very young, and other trees are claiming Nancy, daughter of Field Sr. married someone else.
This has been driving us crazy because our grandfather left notes about his ancestry which state that his grandfather Jacob Hanger married a Nancy Robinson and her father’s name was Field. He also states that Jacob’s brother George married Obedience Robinson. The daughters of Field Sr. would have been age-appropriate to marry the Hanger brothers in those years, but the daughters of Field Jr. are not.
The first name of Field was used by some other of Field Sr.’s brothers, and perhaps they had daughters named Nancy and Obedience also, but we haven’t been able to explore that fully yet. But since the use of “Field” as a first name comes from Mary Field, grandmother of Field Sr., our grandfather’s information certainly leads to this family. Exactly how is still confusing.
Any further information anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
David Hanger in Missouri

Washington County Missouri 1850 Census shows David & Mary Hanger born in Virginia. In their household there was a Samuel Taylor (5 years old). Does anyone know the story on Samuel? I think he may be my GG Grandfather. Thanks!
