Hi
Does anyone know of a Christine Handley who lived in Kirkby in Ashfield, possibly in the 1960s? She may of had some connection with a William Jack Fullerton, age 40ish living in Nottingham.
I believe she or her children may be able to help fill in some gaps in my knowledge of my father.
Any suggestions would be useful.

George Handley Chilvers Coton Warwickshire

My maternal grandmother was Lilian May Ann Handley 1906-1986, born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. She was the 11th child of 12 children born to George Handley 1862-? and Hannah Jemima Lenton (Handley) 1866-1934.
I have records for the entire family up to and including the 1901 census. By the 1911 census, Hannah, along with the youngest children, are living with another man (William H J Ginger). I can find no death record for George in the area where they lived, Nuneaton, Stockingford, Chilvers Coton, Bedworth. What happened to him? Did he die? If not, where did he go?
Although Hannah is recorded as the wife of William Ginger in 1911, I have not found a marriage record and I suspect they never actually married. Was this perhaps because George was still alive in 1911?
ANY info would be gratefully received!

I have an original postcard photograph of “Lud Handley”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1910-1915 and he looks to be about 50.

I found Lud Handley in 1900 in Taylor (Christian Co.) IL showing birthdate October 1862, and married to Ida M. Illinois Death Index shows Lud Laurie Handley, born 11 Oct 1862 Watson, IL and that he died 31 December 1929 Murphysboro (Jackson Co.) IL. Illinois Marriages index shows wedding date to Ida May Snyder on 10 January 1888. In 1910, Lud and Ida lived in Murphysboro (Jackson Co.) IL. In Ancestry Public Member Trees, Lud Lowrey Handley, born 11 Oct 1862 in Effingham, IL is listed with wife Ida Mae Snyder, and it shows his parents as Lud L. and Martha E. (Cassity) Handley.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Lud L.
Frank Handley - India and possibly Singapore 1942

Trying to trace a Handley connection to my Paynes. This couple, possibly Frank and Mary Ann, originated UK late 1800's. She wrote a book about life in India, think he was involved in forestry, possibly rubber/Dunlop? He may or may not have survived the war, she also may have survived a Japanese attack on their ship in 1942, ss Kuala, I found a Mrs M M Handley on the passenger list. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Sep 1864 maybe in Nottinghamshire, England. There are several Williams with that birth date. Married Ruth & immigrated to the States in 1885. Died in New Jersey 1900.

Very much appreciate the help.

Jayne

Yes. I'm looking for my husband's relatives from New Jersey. Immigrant to the States was a WIlliam James Handley, born Oct 1863 in England. Unable to find any other info from England. He may be the William from Salford, Lancashire whose parents were William & Esther. Not sure. Am looking for other clues.

What I have found is that most everyone has confused these families:
1.	James Handley and Elizabeth Hancock (my family)
2.	James Handley and Elizabeth Shelton
3.	James Handley and Elizabeth Stephens. (This James’ parents were Francis Handley and Esther Wilson)
4.	James Handley and Elizabeth Phillips
5.	James Hindly and Elizabeth Phillips

I think that my James parents were George Handley and Elizabeth Unknown, I see them on a census together in Salford with James, but I am still not 100% on that they were his parents.

It is too bad, but since people have mixed up these families and don’t care to correct their mistakes, that they keep passing misinformation on via their family trees on ancestry.com.

The family that left Salford and went to New Jersey via Massachusetts were the following family and I can prove this via a marriage record for my great grandmother and the census records in USA and England. I don’t know if all of the people who have confused these families are my cousins and they have given their grandparents the wrong parents, or if they have taken the siblings of James Handley and Elizabeth Hancock and made them their own when they are not.

James Handley
Spouse: Elizabeth A Hancock
Children:
James (1870-)
Elizabeth A (1873-)
George H (1876-)
William (1879-)
Albert (1880-1977)
Frank (1882-)
Francis (1883-)
John (1885-)
Sarah (1887-)
Rose (1889-)
Edith (1890-)
Hi everyone. I am a resident of Fayette Co. I am originally from south Georgia. I recently started doing my mothers family tree and to my shock and amazement I found that Jared Handley is my relative. I went straight over to the graveyard and took pictures of the headstones. The church is now the town hall in Tyrone Georgia. I am going back tomorrow to speak with Dee Baker who has the history. More to come.....

Who was Susan Handley's husband in 1847 in Burford, Shropshire, England?

My paternal 2nd great grandmother, Susan(nah) HANDLEY married a John RICE in Burford, 16th February 1847. John’s father is named as John SMITH, a Farmer. I have been unable to find any more information about John RICE or John SMITH. There are some census records having a Susannah married to a John PREECE. In the 1951 census at Coreley, Susan’s family, minus a husband, are named as-

George Harley 75,

Susannah Pruce 47,

John Harley 13,

Ellen Lloyd 5

which correspond with my ancestors, Susan’s father George, her son John, born before she married, and herself. Susan is described as married. There is also Ellen LLOYD aged 5 a great grand daughter of presumably George, as he is the head of the family. So who and where was Susan's husband?

Ellen Lloyd born c 1845 in Coreley, Shropshire, England

I have found Ellen Lloyd in the 1851 census for Shutfield, Corley (as it was spelt then). The household comprises of the Head, George Handley (mis-spelt), his married daughter Susannah, her son John Handley (mis-spelt) my great grandfather, and Ellen Lloyd who is 5 and described as George's great granddaughter. However I am unable to find out who her parents or grandparents were or any other mention of her in records. Has anyone else come across her before?

Was William's wife Margaret's maiden name Christie?

My 6th great grandparents were William and Margaret Handley. William was a weaver who immigrated from Ireland (Ulster?) in 1741 with his brother John. They indentured themselves to pay for their passage and that of family members who accompanied then died in 1756 in Augusta Co, VA leaving his wife and young children.

Margaret's maiden name was supposed to have been Christie, but I have never seen any proof of that. My questions are:
- Was Margaret born in Ireland. Did she and William in Ireland and immigrate to America together (in which case "her" Christies would have been Irish? )

- Or, did Margaret and William marry in America?. I have found a Christie family that lived in PA before moving to Monroe Co, VA/WV with whom this Handley family associated, but they immigrated from London, England, not Ireland. (This is the family of a Rev. James Christie who started a Methodist church in Monroe Co, VA, now in WV)

The birth dates for William and Margaret's children about which anything much is known started on Sep 24, 1746 with my ancestor Maj John Handley followed by Samuel Carroll (1751) and Margaret (1753). (There's another possible daughter, Nancy, but I've never found any information about her.) So, that doesn't help solve the question of where William and Margaret married one way or the other.

I hope that by figuring out when and where Margaret was born and then married William I might have a better chance of figuring out her maiden name.
