They are not in my direct line but may be a relative of my Great Grandfather or Great-Great Grandfather. They did spend quite a bit of in Canada and some of them did go West to Washington/Oregon.

Christian Halverson obituary

C. H. Halverson
(1857-1939)
Christian H. Halverson was born January 19, 1857, in Faaberg, Norway, the eldest son of five children of Hans and Matilda Swenson Halverson.
They came to America when he was nine years of age, landing at Prairie du chien on July 4, 1866 when whence they settled in French Creek near Gainesville, where the mother of this family died and was buried just a year after coming to America.
They next moved to Buffalo county, settling in the town of Dover, where he lived until the time of his marriage to Helen Knudson on March 29, 1880.
They lived the first year of their married life in Arcadia where Mr. Halverson was employed by the Masseur Mercantile Store.
In 1881 they moved to Mondovi where they have resided since and where Mr. Halverson was engaged in the Mercantile field almost continually, his last employment being with the Schaettle Brothers from the time of their opening in Mondovi until the death of Frank Schaettle, the elder member of the firm.
To Mr. and Mrs. Halverson were born nine children: Henry, of Bismarck, North Dakota; Norman; Matilda Grorud of Mondovi; Clara Conger of Prairie du Sac; Mary Sholts of Los Angeles, California; Hartwell of Mondovi; Luella Northfoss of Minneapolis; Estelle Rockwell of Mondovi and Edith Reese of Cincinnati.
Christian Halverson had been in failing health for the past three years. On Monday morning April 3 he suffered a stroke from which he did not rally and passed peacefully away at 8:30 on Friday evening April 7.
He is survived by his wife and nine children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held from the home of __________ with the Rev. Aune of Osseo officiating, followed at two o’clock by a service in the Norwegian Lutheran church, in which Rev. Norson and Rev. Aune took part, and in which each minister paid personal tribute to the deceased. Rev. Aune is the minister at the Evanger church at Lookout, where in their younger days both Mr. and Mrs. Halverson were ardent workers, having been members of the choir, confirmed and married there, and where all their children were baptized.
There was a profusion of beautiful flowers and the Ladies Aid of both churches gave mindekrans in memory of Mr. Halverson. Mrs. Martha Peck of Durand, for many years a friend of the Halverson family, beautifully rendered two appropriate solos, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Karel Somol.
The relatives from away besides the immediate family, who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Stollbohm, Bert Knudson, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Bones, Mrs. Clarence Knudson and son Clarence, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Knudson, son Kenneth and daughter Vivian, all of Eau Claire; Mrs. Martha Linder and daughter Miss Ruth Pearson of Durand; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Nelson and son Walter, of North Branch; Mrs. J. P. Sommerin and Miss Wealthy Knudson, of Osseo; Miss Eleanor Lee, of Whitewater; Mrs. Francis Pfeiffer, of Winona, Minnesota; Mrs. Lena Vold, of Eleva, and Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald Lee, of Cornell. Of the immediate family, those from away who attended the funeral where, Henry Halverson of Bismarck, North Dakota; Mrs. Clara Conger, of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Northfoss, of Minneapolis; Mrs. R. A. Reese of Cincinnati, Ohio; Palmer Grorud, of Madison. Interment was made in Oak Park cemetery.

Obituary clipping in possession of Chris Grorud. Newspaper and date unknown. Died April 7, 1939 in Mondovi, Buffalo Co., Wisconsin. I would love to find anyone related to this family.

Dorothy Halverson obituary, daughter of Norman and Emma

I am transcribing obituaries from our local newspaper archives (Scotia, Nebraska):

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXII, Thursday, December 16, 1926, pg. 1, column 3
DOROTHY HALVERSON DIES IN WISCONSIN
Word reached Scotia Tuesday of the death of Dorothy Faye Halverson, at Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Dorothy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Halverson, of Scotia, and at the time of her death was living at the Martin home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dorothy was born March 2, 1908, in Racine, Wisconsin, and passed away on December 14, 1926.
The deceased had many friends in Scotia who are saddened to hear of her death, and who will extend their tenderest sympathy to her family in this, their time of sorrow.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

Halverson family in Philadelphia, 1790-1822

We've reached the Brick Wall! Anna Rosetta Halverson French, our 3rd great grandmother (1794-1828) was born in Philadelphia. Her parents are more elusive. We know her mother was Hanna Cotter a widow when she married a James or Frederick Halverson, a mariner ~1790 in Philadelphia. We know she was a high end dressmaker by a business directory listing. Mr. Halverson is not alive in 1810, she is listed with her daughters in the census as a widow. We have no birth surname or even country for her. (possibly Ireland or Scotland) Her first husband, Edmund Cotter, died in 1785, after 2 years married. If anyone has a connection or more information, we would love to share!

I am trying to get more information on my great grandmother's side of the family. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Beulah Burr Stelle (married George Leonard Baldwin in Washington, D.C. 1928), daughter of Thomas Stelle. I do not know who Thomas married or any information beyond my great-grandmother including siblings. I have tons of pictures dating back to the early 1900s that I think are all "Stelle" related photos. I would love to share these photos and letters that I have if I can put these names to the proper spots so that I know there is a direct relation. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

Christen Anderson

I was Five years old when my real father talked to me. At five years old you can't equate that, so I told him my father was at work not realizing how important that short conversation was to him and me. I am now 62 years old. I am a father and grandfather. I wish I could at least learn something about my real father, he should be about 87 or 88 now. Any response would be appreciated.

Interesting. I was just looking through my dad's old pictures. His grandmother was Minnie and her daughter, my dad's mother was Winnie. They lived in Minnesota. The name Einar seems familiar. I'll have to check back with my dad.

Hello all,

I am looking for some information on my great-grandmother's family. I am starting with very limited information and I apologize for that. My great-grandmother's name was Harriet Halverson (also went by Hettie or Hattie), born April 16 1894, in Iowa. She had two siblings named Minnie and I believe Andrew. Her parents names were Andrew (born in Wisconsin) and Hannah (born in Minnesota). Any help would be appreciated.

Heather

Hi some info you don't know...grandpa hall was never an encell till he changed his name...he chose encell for a middle name after a Hungarian man he admired... He had a long string of middle names including per meaning peter and emanual.....he told me that the reason he changed his name was something to do with the Wobblies and the union wars in the logging industry.. What exactly...he didn't say.....grandma hall said he had been black balled and couldn't get work at sometime in his logging carreer..... Grandpa, the wild child, was very cryptic about that time of his life....did you know that he dissapeared for a year...no one, not even his mother knew where he was....mom told me that.....I'm still learning new things about him.... Hope this helps....you still have some info that is wrong.....we will talk later.... Cousin barbie, jim's daughter....
