I have no connection to these famililes. When I come across these "tidbits" in the old newspapers I'm working on, I like to post them. I think it helps us to "humanize" our ancestors. We don't always like the stuff they did necessarily, but . . . we can't pick our family - lol.
This is from the Rockland (Maine) Gazette of September 26, 1872:
"A fine schooner of 250 tons, old measurement, called the 'K.C. Rankin,' was successfully launched from the yard of Messrs. Ames & Rankin, last Saturday. This is a very superior vessel, built in the best manner, of hard pine and hackmetack, and copper-fastened, by Mr. R.C. Thomas and is one of the best vessels he has ever launched. She is owned by Messrs. Ames & Rankin, R.C. Thomas, J.T. Young, F.B.T. Young, Henry Verrill, Capt. Charles Hall and others. Capt. Charles Hall is to command her."
