Yes. I have researched the Stampers, Nancy Stamper wife of John Hall was the d/o of Nathaniel Stamper. This line goes back to Jonathan Stamper, Sr. of Middlesex City,VA. There was a John Church bn 1734 s/o of Elizah Church of Wilkes County, NC. I don't know who the parents were of John Hall.

Delores,

> I have a James Franklin b. 1867 Wilkes Co. NC. mother Amelia/Permelia Stamper father William Hall-both of NC <

Was this William Hall the son of John and Nancy Hall born abt. 1768? My William Hall had a brother named Franklin.
I am interested in this family.
Thanks.

Lisa

I am interested in John Church who may have married a Miss Stamper who had several children then died and John Church, known as Yankee John Church then married Jane Andrews and then he died either in 1806 or 1811. I am descended from Yankee John Church's son Benjamin Church b.1763 in Lewis Fork, Rowan (now Wilkes Countyy, NC.

I do know that folks were not referred to as Yankees prior to the 1840s unless they were from New England. So Yankee John Church was actually born in New England and moved to NC or spent a lot of time in New England and was given the nickname 'Yankee' because of that. Maybe there were two John Church's and one was a yankee and that is how the two of them were distinguished from each other in converstion.

If you could find out, believe me, lots and lots of people would be very grateful to you. We have all hit a brick wall with Yankee John Church. So if you could find out if the John Church b.1734 that you mentioned was called 'Yankee John', I personally would be very grateful.

I am interested in the Hall family of NC because my nephew married a Hall whose Grandparents came from there.

Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Sorry for the "delay".....I do know that James' Dad was b. VA. I do know that he had a son John...younger than James. I am told by some body that William was VERY SOUTHERN CONFEDERATE....spent time in an ATLANTA prison for conterfiting.....his purpose was to bankrupt the North...
James F. died 1936 from sugar diabeties complications. James was married 2 times...5 children from Maggie Ward Hall

Lisa I am going through old posts trying to see any new info...what I see is that I did not answer your question....:) MY William's father was OWEN HALL (b. 1800+) (research done by my aunt...many years ago) BUT this family is found in Wilkes Co. area...so I imagine it is like most all families back then tangled up with same names!! MY OWEN HALL was married to a "Mickey" Reynolds. To me an unusual ladies name for the time...
My William was born 1841 m Permelia Stamper

Thanks for writing. After all this time I still have not been able to figure out the parents of my John Hall bn 1810 and married Nancy Stamper in Wilkes Co.,NC. With your Owen born 1800, its possible they were brother's. This has been my toughest line and I keep hoping someone holds the key to who this family was....
Thanks again.

let's assume they are brothers...... do you have ANY pictures of maybe your John's son/daughter??? With both William and John marrying Stampers...chances are the Stamper girls were related...... a lot of assumption here....but the reason I would like to get a "visual" IS MY mother looks like she just came off either the Reservation/Boundry.... Black hair black eyes...her skin color (when she got out in the sun) was like those of our Native Am. These characteristics DO NOT come from her mother's side....

I do have a picture of William's son James Franklin (b. 1867 Wilkes Co.) but he is an elderly man and the pic is not clear...

your thoughts?
