HAGOOD James Lonnie Hagood, 84, of Whitman, West Virginia, left this life on Friday, January 8, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia.
Born December 12, 1925, he was a son of Mrs. Christine Hagood, who preceded him in death in 1998.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ora J. Hagood; and a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Man High School Memorial Field House with Rev. Joseph Moore, Pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, officiating.
Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Services under the direction of Pond Funeral Home of Aracoma, West Virginia.

I am just starting this, and came across william Haigood married to Louisa Springfield. My Great grandpa was G. Luther Haigood and all I came across for his dad is his name is William Haigood and all it had for his mom was Springfield. So perhaps this is a link?

I've managed to trace my family back to the 1900 census. I know he was married to a Rosa Ridout in LaCross/South Hill, VA area.

The only reference I can find is the 1900 census. Married in 1895, widowed by 1900. They had two kids, Frederick William and Thomas Boyd Hagood that later went to live with her parents.

I know there are a good deal of Hagoods in the southern VA area in this time frame, but I can't locate a sibling or parent to get traction on.

Any help would be great!!!!

My 3rd gr grandmother's name was Sarah Ann not sure of her maiden name but one of my dad's cousins (bef. he died) showed me a paper that someone had written down William Robert Haygood mar. Sarah Ann Melisie (could be a mispelled last name not sure).

I would like to know where on Ancestry.com did you find that Milton A. Hagood & Simpson McEnville Haggod were brothers. I could never find anything on Milton A. exc. he was in the war and my 2nd gr grandfather and his twin were living with him in GA in 1850.

Also would like to discuss more Hagood with you.

I wish I could help you but I can't get past my 3rd gr grandfather William R. Haygood. All I know is that after he died his wife and one dt. show up together living in GA and her twin sons (one of which was my gr gr grandpa) were living in the home of Milton A. Hagood and I don't know what relation he was to them. That is what I am trying to find out. If I could find parents of Milton A. Hagood I might be able to find out more on my 3rd gr grandpa Wm. R.

Well.. my father's name was Ben G. Hagood, his parents were Viola Ferguson and G.B. Hagood (Or Benjamin George Hagood). Viola's father was named Van Ferguson. Van moved to Wheeling as an adult in the 1920s. My father had three sisters, named Lucille Hagood (Lee), Betty Robinson (Howard) and Sandra Robinson (Wesley). Of those, Sandra is the only one living. My father also had two brothers, my mom says they called one "Lukey" Robinson, and Sydney Robinson, who are both deceased.

My father Ben was born in Easley SC in 1921 or 22. He moved up here when he was a child, mom says possibly 5 or 6 years old. He married Bernestine Sams, and they had 4 children of which I am the youngest. I believe we could be family :-)

Adaline Hagood

Looking for info about Adaline Hagood. She married Ezekial Hale/Hail/Hall Aug. 27, 1835 in St. Clair Co. Alabama. She was the first wife of Ezekial and I believe she was the mother of my ancestor Maggie Hale. Ezekial was married after Adaline to a Sarah/Sally Turnbough but I believe that Maggie was born while Ezekial and Adaline were married.

Maggie Hale married George Bowman Sept. 13, 1878 in Jackson Co. Alabama. Maggie and George are my maternal great-great grandparents. My grandmother had told me that HER grandmother Maggie Hale was a "full Cherokee". If Maggie indeed did have Native American heritage, I would like to know which parent of hers it comes from. I have been looking for info on Ezekial to indicate he was NA but have found no documentation as yet. If anyone out there has any info on Adaline and knows if perhaps she was a NA, any help would be greatly appreciated.

George and Maggie(Hale)Bowman made their way to Arkansas. Ezekial Hale also came to Arkansas and is found in the 1900 ARK. census living in Franklin Co. with relatives. Not sure when he died. He was married to Sally Turnbough July 7,1845 also in St.Clair Al. So Im assuming that Adaline died within that 10 yr. time frame somewhere in Alabama and is buried there.

Wesley and Anne had a son (not sure how many children they had) William Kyle Hagood b. 24-Feb-1897 in Hawkins Co. TN. married on 24-June-1917 to Allie Mae Frazier b. 13-Sept-1899 in Longs Bend, Hawkins Co. TN. They moved to Annapolis, MD sometime in the 1930's. Kyle and Allie are my husbands grand-parents.

My maiden name was Webster. My fathers name was Donald Suitt Webster. His father was Joseph Webster b. 12/13/1887 in Lodgeville, Tn. Joseph died when my father was abt 5 yrs old. Joseph died in Illinois. We believe josephs father was William Henry Webster b. 1/20/1866 in Hawkins Co., Tn. At the time Joseph died, his father and a step mother lived neighbors to Joseph in Illinois. I am having trouble finding who William Henry was married to before, and who was mother of my grandfather Joseph Webster. Have found where William H Webster ,Hawkins,Tn. was married to a Minerva or Manerva E. Hagood. They were married March29, 1887. Which Joseph was born Dec 13, 1887. Which would make the dates about right. I can't find a death of Manerva(or Minerva) Hagood.

I am desperately trying to find out who M. (Milton) B. Hagood (spelled that way on the census)age 29 b. SC who is in the 1860 District 832 Paulding Co Georgia census pg. 47 with wife Sarah 20 b. SC and dts.Mary 2 b. GA & Laura 1 b. GA and then two boys who are not his sons. They are twins but the transciber of census' put them down as 18 and 13 but both are 15 yrs old.

Now the twins names are Lewis and William. Now Lewis is actually Lewis Morgan Haygood and twin brother William Robert Haygood. In some census they go by Morgan & Robert. They came to IN bef. 1870 and Lewis Morgan Haygood is my gr gr grandfather.

In 1850 the whole family Lewis & William and parents & siblings are in Pickens Co SC. Parents were William & Sarah. And the problem is I don't know how M (Milton) B. is related. If I could find out this info it may help me go back farther then my 3rd gr grandpa William Haygood b. abt. 1805 SC.

James, my 3rd great-grandfather, married either Sarah Mayo or Sarah Cox. I'm trying to figure out who Sarah was.

James and Sarah lived in Hawkins Co., Tn. and I am descended through their daughter Martha S. Hagood. Someone told me that James Monroe Hagood married Sarah Elizabeth Cox October 6, 1836 in Washington Co., Tn. The names of their children do suggest that Sarah's maiden name may very well be Cox, but I'd like to know if a marriage record exists for them.

Thank you to anyone willing to help me out with this. I don't have access to marriage records during this time period and haven't been able to find any online.

That solves one problem, but while Arden had a daughter named Nancy Catherine Sanders, she married John Janeway - so I will need to find a Nancy Sanders who m. Arden Hagood.

I'll go through my Nancy Sanders list (I have 29 of them) and see if one of them is a good candidate to have married Arden Hagood. I'd be willing to bet that the "S" in Arden S. Hagood is for Sanders!

I have a Benjamin F. Haygood listed in the 1850 census for district 13 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee, dated November 15, 1850. He is listed with wife, Nancy, and children, Harden, Mary, Benjamin, Nahum, and John.

I find the same Benjamin F. Haygood in the 1860 census on pg. 236 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee, district not stated, with wife, Nancy, and children, Mary, John, Benjamin, and Nahum.

In the 1870 census, an Arden S. Hagood can be found on page 25 in Strawberry Plains, Jefferson Co., Tennessee at age 31 with wife, Nancy, at age 19.

In the Tennessee marriage index I found an Arden S. Hagood married a Nancy S. Seaver on September 28, 1869.

In the 1840 census for Hawkins Co., Tennessee, on page 36, I found an Arden Sander on the same page with Benjamin F. Hagood. I was wondering if Nancy married to Benjamin F. Hagood might have been Nancy Sanders, daughter of Arden Sanders, and the Harden Hagood found in the 1850 census of Jefferson Co. might have actually been Arden S. Hagood with his name misspelled.

I also found Nahum or Nathan Hagood in the 1900 census in Salt River Twp., Randolph Co., Missouri on page 8 dated for June 8, 1900. He was listed with Benjamin R. Hagood, his brother, and Mollie E. Hagood, his sister-in-law.

Then in the 1910 census for Salt River Twp., Randolph, Missouri, district 142, I found both Nahum/Nathan Hagood and Arden S. Hagood. Nahum was listed on page 5 with Mollie E. Hagood, and Arden S. Hagood was on page 15 at age 71 and widowed. The birth place of both is Tennessee.

The William H Hagood that married Julia Jeter was from Brunswick Co. Virginia, they married in Gadsden County Florida and he died there in 1857. The Jeter Mosaic is inaccurate as it applies to this family. William and Richard are brothers and they did marry Julia and Susan.

Can you give more information on Willis Haguewood/Hagwood? James Willis Hagwood b. 1814 m. Frances Rowe. This is the one I am researching. I need his parents and siblings.

Also, I have one of the George Hagwood men married to Macy Rowe.

There are just too many with the same name to get them down on paper in the proper order.

I am descended from William J. Haguewood and Martha Ann Hutcherson of Sumter County, AL. Willis Haguewood served
as a surety for their marriage in Sumter County. I cannot locate all of my Haguewood information at this moment, but
I know that Willis Haguewood did reside in Sumter and/or
Choctaw County, AL before moving to Lauderdale Co., MS.

I was informed by a genealogist that I descended from Walter A. Haguewood and Martha Slaughter of Greene County, but that was incorrect and I learned that later after I had published a family history in a Choctaw County Heritage Book. I suppose the fact that William J. married a Martha got the professional genealogist somewhat confused.

My grandfather, Robert Marion Haguewood, was the youngest child of the Haguewood/Hutcherson marriage. There were several other children and they all seemed to migrate over to Lauderdale Co., MS after the Civil War. There are still a number of Haguewood's who live in the Meridian area.

I have a record of a land purchase by a William Haguewood from NC in the 1830's. Rather, I should say a land patent
taken out. The land ws purchased at the Demopolis Land Bank.

Robert Marion Haguewood married Fannie Youree Pennington and they lived in Pennington. My father was one of three
children and the only one to have a child...me. There
are other Haguewood relatives in Alabama who descend through a daughter Cynthia Haguewood...I believe she was a daughter of William Haguewood and the sister of William J. Haguewood. She was married to a Col. Almon James who was a good many years older than she and they had only daughters.

Hope that I can learn more about the Haguewood family and their ancestry. My maiden name has long been a mystery to everyone who attempts to pronounce it!

Yes, George Hagwood married Macy Rowe. George is from SC and Macy abt. Aug 1819 from AL. Their children, Alice was born abt. 1854 in AL and Georgia Ann was born 25 Sep 1858 in either AL or MS. Georgia Ann married William Pinkney Dearman, s/o William Dearman and Nancy Ousley on 27 May 1882 in Lauderdale Co., MS.

James Willis Hagwood b. 1814 in Abbesville, S.C. was the son of James Hagwood/Hagood along with Bartlett A. and Partin Hagwood/Hagood.

We think that George Hagwood/Hagood and James Willis, Bartlett A., and Partin are brothers.

I recently found George Hagwood married Macy Rowe with children Alice and Georgia Ann. They seem to be from Alabama. Georgia Ann married Wm. Pinkney Dearman in MS.

Partin Hagwood b. about 1754 in S. C. (no wife listed), and only one son listed. James Willis Hagwood b. 1814 in Abbesville, S.C.

We think George Hagood/Hagwood and Partin are brothers. Their parents are William Hagood b. 1735 and Barbara Johnson. Or, these could be children of one of William's sons.
