The Haglers in the Cabarrus, Mecklenburg and Union Counties (to name a few) are all descendants of Johannes (John) Hägler. There is some debate as to where he was from but I am of the opinion (as are others) that he was from the German speaking province in the Canton of Basil, Switzerland. The earliest record I have for his being in America was when land was surveyed for him in 1749.
There was another John Hagler who in 1765 settled on the north side of Rocky River and west side of the Pee Dee. Because of fevers that were then associated with "bad water" he moved his family in early 1780`s to where Kings Creek flows from the south to empty into the Yadkin River in what was Wilkes that`s now Caldwell County.
For me it`s much easier to trace families from the 1880`s backwards rather than to the present day. The 1890 U.S. census was destroyed and there is a gap of 20 years between the census of 1880 and 1900. But maybe I can help you if you will begin with what you know is fact and go backwards in time as far as you can. Just provide for instance with your grandfather and great grandfathers names, dates and where they lived. Like Joe Blow born 1888 in Union County and died in Mecklenburg County in 1960 the son of Mack and Sally, etc.
