I am beginning research on my mother's family. Her paternal grandmother was Frederika Haag, who married Konrad Popp (or Poppe) and had a son, Ernest. The three emigrated to the US about 1885 from Germany (or possibly Austria) and changed their name to Pope. Two daughters were born in this country, Freda and Emily, ca. 1886 and 1888. My grandfather, Frederick Konrad Pope, was born in Terre Haute, IN, in January of 1890. Would love to hear from anyone who may have further infomation.

My Father's Mothers' name was Virginia Ella Haag, and was married to Roy Aloysius Belt - I'm not sure yet where they're both from originally, but I do know they were living in Terra Haute when my Father was born(1929?) I believe the Belt name was origianlly VanBelt and was of Dutch descent. I myself am looking for some family tree answers for Haag, Belt and Simmons.

I have a Fredericka and Frederick Haag in my family tree. Fredericka (Handel) was born in Sept 1826. She married Frederick Haag. They had a son-Louis (6/5/1866). He married Louisa Grewenow April 4, 1895 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Their son-Walter Louis Haag, my grandfather, was born May 12, 1896.

Thanks for your reply. For some reason I didn't get notified that it was posted, hence my tardy reply. My ggrandmother was already married to Konrad Popp (Poppe?) when she came to this country. The name was later changed to Pope. If she had Haag relatives living in Terre Haute, it might explain how they happened to move there. Shortly after my grandfather was born in TH (1890), the family moved to Worcester, Mass., where Konrad had been hired as a brew master in a local brewery (I don't know what he was working at previously). If you come up with any more info, I'd enjoy hearing from you.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know where Frederick and Frederika were living? As I mentioned in my reply to the above message, relatives living in Terre Haute may have been the reason my ggrandparents moved there.

Richard. Sounds like a differnet family. I can't find a connection to Indiana. Most of the Haags seem to have settled around the Madison, Wis area in the early 1800's. Others settled in Kenosha County in Wisconsin.

Hello. My grandmother was a Grewenow and was born in Bristol, WI (outside of Kenosha) My aunt told me the following: There was a Louise Grewenow in our family she was my grandpa Grewenow's sister. She lived from 1/23/1877 - 9/23/20. She married a Haag, I don't know his name, and they had 4 children, Walter, who was married to Edna, Winfield, Viola and Florence

I noticed your interest in a Louise Grewenow. She was the mother of Freda Viola Haag who married Robert A. Applegate who is in my family history data. Louise's husband was Louis Haag. There is a great deal of conflicting birth and marriage information on Freda Viola & Robert's family. Let me know if you are interested in communicating further on this.
