One of my ggrandfather Charles Haefele's brothers (Frederick)supposedly
settled in the Cleveland/Akron area. In the process of
researching this family, I learned that some
of the Haefeles considered Akron their original home - something
I never learned from the southern Indiana
Haefeles. (From notes my cousin took from conversations with my
grandmother, southern Indiana seemed to be my gggrandfather Georg Heinrich (Henry) HAEFELE's
first main stop around 1852-54.) I've learned that 3 children of another brother William (Gottlieb Wilhelm b. 1847)
moved to Akron, though one
moved back to northern IL (where they were raised), so
it makes sense to me that their were other
Haefeles in the Akron area. What's strange is
that I can not find the name in online documents for Summit county.
I find Hafele, Haefele, etc in Cuyahoga county,
but not Summit. My guess has been that they
changed the spelling somewhat. That's why I
am writing this message - wondering if there
is any kind of connection with the name Haaf.
Frederick Haefele was supposedly a Lutheran
minister somewhere in the Cleveland area. (conflicting
info on this). I have a huge picture of a family
that I assume is his. There are first names on
the back, but the main male is labeled "father"!
The southern Indiana Haefeles living today do not
seem to know these people or their names at all, though I have not
interviewed all of them yet.
The 3 children of William Haefele were Alfred, Pluma and Ruth (married
name I believe was Mercer). William's wife Annetta (Nettie)also lived
in Akron with Pluma after William's death. Both she and Pluma
died there in the 1930's and 40's.
If any of this is ringing a bell, let me know.
I'd be glad to send more info on the family.
Thanks
