Ron, I will have to get the Haack info from my daughter. I think all Haack's must be related, because of the spelling of the name. There were 7, mother, father, and 5 children who came from Prussia in 1855. My late ex-father-in-law could not find any thing on 3 of the children, I think. I will call my daughter tonight and borrow the book from her.
Thanks, Vicki

Ron,
I think the Haack/Ihlenfeld couple that you have are the same as the one I have, although I have Sophia as Ihlenfeld's first name. But back then they interchanged their first names often. August Haack (3 Nov. 1843-10 Oct. 1911) and Ihlenfeld had a daughter Louise Bertha W. Haack who married Heinrich J. Koch. They had one daughter Olivia Koch (24 May 1897-15-March-1988) who married John Voelzke. They had children from his prior marriage. How are you connected to Haack/Ihlenfeld?

I am related through the half sister, Augusta Ihlenfeld Werner (Aug. 2, 1856-May 23, 1933), she married Fritz Werner (May 2, 1847-Mar. 31, 1904), and they had ten children; their youngest Louis (1898-1980) was my grand father. From one of Augusta's son's record of marriage, her parentage was given as Gottleib Ihlenfeld and Sinne Budde, and also confirmed on her brother's death certificate (William Ihlenfeld --Dec. 5, 1852-Sept 7, 1908).

From a contact made in Germany (over ten years ago), I found that Augusta was born in Bernstein, Kries Soldin, Brandenburg, Germany. He also noted that she had left for America with her sister and brother-in-law, the Boelks.
The rest of the relation was give to me by a distant cousin who had grown up with Augusta (his grandmother), where she was residing until her death. This is where I learned that she had half sisters (Gottleib was widowed prior to 1852 and remarried to Budde)) and their names of Haack and Boelk.

I also show an "Anna Hock" as a sponsor on a baptismal certificate for Augusta's daughter in 1885. Was the name "Haack" anglonized to "Hock"? The only other information I have is the other full sister, Minnie Boelk. Her death certificate (Milw. Cty.--281 #52) states: father as Gottleib, her mother is unknown. Dates of Sept. 26, 1839 to Feb. 25, 1909. I could find no information on the Haack sister.

There is one village that also come up for the Ihlenfeld family and that is Sophienhof, Kries Arnswalde. This is a village close to Bernstein.

Hope this may help in clarifying or match your records of information. Do you know if your relation was married in Milwaukee or in Germany?

Surnames: Haack Ihlenfeld
If you find out anything let me know. I have a birthplace of Bernstein, Kries Soldin, Brandenburg, Germany for Augusta and her brother William. I don' t have nor could find any thing on Anna Haack, but have death certificates for her brother William (12-05-1852 through 9-07-1908) and their half sister Minne Boelk (9-26-1839 through 2-25-1909)

Have been reading some of your posts about August Haack. I am a decendant of August C. Haack from Ohio. His father was Christian Haack, mother Louisa Schroder from Prussia. We have a similar story in our family about a bunch of brothers that came over from Prussia but the date we have is 1865. The story we heard was that the brothers each went their separate ways after they arrived in America. Haack actually is a very common name in Germany, like Smith is over here. I use to live in Milwaukee, too but now I am here in Michigan. We are having a 70th Haack Reunion on August 15th in Oregon, Ohio. Expect over 100 people. Would love to hear from you.

Vicki,

I know this is a few years late! But I'm a granddaughter of Ralph Haak. I can certainly help you out if you still need it!

I have a great little report that is written by Russell all about the Haak family and even about the coat of arms. He did a great job researching the family back in 1967.

Please let me know if you do. My email is maryehaak@gmail.com.

Surnames: Ihlenfeld Ihlenfeldt Haack Hack Boelk
There are family death notices in the local German language papers for both William Ihlenfeld (+ an obit.; brief or detailed?) and Minnie Boelk. In both cases the notices repeated indicating family use of these papers. The same or other information may be found in the Milwaukee Journal OR Milwaukee Sentinel (separate papers until the 1990s). An Anna Haack (45 yrs.) died in Milwaukee in 1914...?

There are about 60 Ihlenfeld / Ihlenfeldt and 175 Haack / Hack entries or references culled from the local German language newspapers in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950). It's a local library resource and a continuing project as well; the newspapers and index are not online ... yet.
