I was born in Los Angeles on 5/30/63. I was put up adoption and was placed on 12/4/63. I believe my birth mother's maiden name was Gyurcso. I'm told I have an older half sister from my birth mother's previous marriage. It is unclear whether my birth father was that husband or someone else. I'm told my ethnic heritage is Hungarian and Serb. If anyone has any information, please email me. Thank you!

Patti:
As you can see my surname is George. However, it was Gyursco for the first 18 years of my life. My parents had it changed. My father was Andrew Gyurcso from Marion Heights, Pa. He died last September at age 86. His father was also George and died in Pennsylvania in 1915. I had two uncles - Stephen and Joseph Gyurcso and one aunt, Elizabeth whose married surname was Potochney. You're right about Gyurcso being Hungarian. There is only one other Gyurcso hat I know of in the United States and he's Arthur in Cleveland, Ohio. I have never contacted him as of this time. My father told me that when his parents came to the United States just after the turn of the century they settled in Chicago, but stayed there only a short time before moving to Northeastern Pennsylvania. I have a brother and sister, my uncle Stephen has one son still living, but he spells the name Gyursco. My uncle Joseph had two daughters and both live around the Philadelphia area. You said you live in Los Angeles. Do you know if you were born there? I will be on vacation until this weekend, so if you reply I will not be able answer until Friday or Saturday, but rest assured I will answer if you'd like.
Jim (Gyurcso) George

Thanks for the message. I was born in Los Angeles on 5/30/63, and put into foster care until I was placed with my adoptive parents on 12/4/63. I'm told my birth father is of Serbian ancestry. The name I'm referred to on the adoption papers is Treppo - very Italian, and I don't know if it was my birth mother's married name or not. Hope your vacation is good! Robin

Robin: First let me apologize for the first name mistake in my first message. When a person gets older the mind goes first and that's my only excuse for addressingyou as Patti. I don't know if the information was of any use to you. I'm 58 years of age and have a sister Kathy who is 55 and a brother Andy who is 48. We all live in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I do have a cousin Loretta who lives in Chester, Pa., just outside Philadelphia, who has been married three times and does have a daughter. Loretta is not married now and there was a time I could not keep up with her comings and goings. Loretta now lives with, and takes care of, her very old mother, my aunt Anna. If you have any other questions, or just want to converse, keep in touch. If, in fact, you have some Hungarian roots, I can give you some great recipes. I enjoy cooking and have a son, my youngest, who is a certified chef. He took my love of culinary arts and went professional with it.
Stay in touch,
Jim (Gyurcso) George

Hi Jim - don't worry about the error, every teacher I ever had thought my name was Patty Berg. I am essentially looking for information about my birth mother, whose maiden name is Gyurcso. I do know I have an older half-sister from my birthmom's previous marriage. If your cousin Loretta is about your age and was in Los Angeles in 1963, I sure would like to know more about her. My motives are finding relatives and medical history, not to upset my birthparent's lives. I was raised an only child by two only children, and would love to have some siblings or cousins if they exists! Again, any information is appreciated. Thank you so much! Robin Pattberg

Jim, Durco's are in Cambria, Westmorland, Montgomery Cnty's, PA. Do you know of any connection Betweeb the Durco Gyurcso? Thanks
|
Jan: I never heard of the Durco-Gyurcso association, but it does sound interesting. Gyurcso is an Hungarian surname, and it would seem to make sense that someone trying to escape from Czechoslovakia would use it due to the close proximity of the two countries. I live in Lackawanna County, but was born in Northumberland County (Kulpmont). I had Gyurcso relatives in Columbia, Centre and Chester Counties. I also have some third cousins in Maine and New Jersey, but we don't keep in touch. If you have any other questions I will try to answer them.
Jim
P.S. My parents changed our name from Gyurcso to George in 1961.

Jim, I have sent for the 1920 census will be for a ship manefest, trying to see the friends name John Durco came to USA with. It will be interesting if it's a Gyurcso... One of the Durco's died I think in Kulpsville, PA.

Just thought some of you might like to know. I got the naturalization papers & ship manifest, & found out that GYURCSO is Hungarian, & DURCO is the Slovak version of it. So the John Durco I have been searching was Janos Gyurcso! When he came to USA, 1912 he started using DURCO. & John DURCO married ANNA MIKUS.

Jan, It's great to see you've tracked down evern more info. You say John Durco died in Kulpsville. That's interesting because we were based in Kulpmont. I believe Kulpsville is nearer to Allentown or Philly, while Kulpmont is northwest of Pottsville.
