Hello Barry
I wonder if you could help me, my late father was born in Wombwell Yorkshire around 1917-1918.
His name was Roy Gyte and was the youngest of seven brothers.
Saddly he died in 1989,I have an older brother who lives in Ripon in Yorkshire, who like myself would be delighted if you could help with some history of our Surname.

Does anyone have any information about Anthony GYTE, born in the eighteenth century in the above area. He had a daughter, Mary, who married Thomas Naylor.

I have Mary Gyte, daughter of Anthony, marrying John Naylor in Chelmorton in 1792. They lived in Sheldon. They had 2 children that I know of, John and Thomas, who married Esther Alcard. The family tended to move between Sheldon, Chelmorton and Bakewell, and were farmers and miners.
Do you think there might be a link with your Gytes and Naylors?
Thanks
Janie
