Looking for any Gylstorff or relative. Grandfather was Mauritz Gylstorff aka Morris Gilstorf. He had a brother Conrad Wilhelm Nicolay Gylstorff who was born 2-17-1881 and probably died in NY. Both were born in Norway to Conrad Nicolay Olsen and his second wife, Alma Sorensen, from Denmark. It was her family that took the name of Gylstorff. All six of their children were given the surname of Gylstorff. They lived in Kragero, Norway outside of Olso. Related, email me at jodimcavenia@prodigy.net.

Hi,
I work in a company called Gylstorff & Co in Antwerp, Belgium. My grandfather bought this company from Mr. O.C. Gylstorff in (est.) 1946. I know it is a Scandinavian name, probably Danish. Does anyone have any clue as to what it means and does anyone know of any O.C. Gylstorff that was a Sea Master and moved from Denmark to Antwerp, Belgium in 1877 or 1888?

You can e-mail me on reginald@gylstorff.com
Brgds,

Reginald

Yes, Gylstorff was the name my greatgrandmother's family took on. They were from Denmark. Her father ___ Sorensen worked across the German border as a gardener in Flensburg. I spoke with a woman from Germany and she stated that "orff" "dorf" means village/town and that it probably meant from the village of Gyles. My ggrandmother was Alma Sorensen, her mother was known as Sorensen also. Don't know her father's name yet. But her brothers were Arthur and Wilhelm Gylstorff. That is all I know so far.

About Gylstorff genus.

North of the River Elbe, near Lübeck, one having a small village called Gylstorff, this is my theory of the family come from there, it makes no sense that it should come from Luxemborg.
Look into my hand on the family at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/a/r/Molly-Larse...
for more information on the family, something you just have to remember is that there are some who took the name Gylstorff without being "born" with the name, a part of this family settled in the U.S. A.

Sincerely,
Molly Larsen
