I am looking for information on the Gyles family that came from Annestown, Ireland. My grandparents were Stephan and Julia Baldwin Gyles came through Ellis Island (1916), my father was 6 years old , and settled in Tracy Creek, 1920 census in the Town of Union NY. My father was Sidney Joseph Gyles, son of Ellen Gyles. I know that the majority of his family lived and lives in Vestal NY, Broome County, but I do not know them. I grew up in Oxford, NY, Chenango County. My grandmother remarried Jim Cron. Can anyone help?

I am new to this so I hope I can help you. My Great Anunt Adelaide Woodman married a Gyles. I do not know his name but I can tell you that there are lots of Gyles in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I hope that can help you.

I am one of the daughters of a Gyles from Vestal New York. My dad is Gerard Gyles and he has a brother and two sisters, Jack, Pat and Kathleen. We are a big family and would love to talk to you.

I just talked to my dad and he knows Uncle Sidney. Apparently I sat next to him at my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary years ago. My grandparents were John and Kathryn Gyles of Endwell NY.
I believe we are long lost cousins of some sort!

Hi Jennifer!

You bet we are related. This is fantastic! I grew up in Oxford NY, and my dad worked in Binghamton, but I never knew my cousins or aunts & uncles. My oldest sister Dorothy worked at IBM and knew alot of the family through there. Dot and my dad Sid, have both passed away.

I found another cousin, (or I should say he found me), he descends from My grandmother Ellen's sister Katherine who married a Keane. He received the lead through cousin Julia in NYC.

What a great Christmas Present. I will get in touch privately!

Thank you again - so much,

Sheila (Gyles) McCormack

After reading this posting, I realized that your Grandfather, John & my husband's mother, Elizabeth were brother & sister. I only met Jack 1 time, at Gramma (Gyles) Knapp's funeral, but I know my husband, Denny & Gerry knew each other very well. Would like to hear from you again & know Dennis (we lived in Poughkeepsie, NY) would like to know more about Gerry and the rest of the family. Please contact me

Jennifer - Your Dad, Gerry, and I are first cousins. His Mom and Dad were Jack & Katy. My Mom, Alice (Haggerty) Zedar, was Katy's sister. We lived just a few houses away from them on Chatham Road in Endwell. Some of my very best Christmas memories are with your Dad! Uncle Jack was cheap and he'd wait till Christmas Eve to get a tree for $1 and let me and Gerry decorate it. We'd always get shocked plugging in the lights! Jackie and Patty were older and away, but Gerry and I would torment Kathy, as little brothers are supposed to do! Frank Zedar (frankzedar@gmail.com)
