I have been studying the GYLE surname for several years and did know that there is a group from PA but have not yet been able to connect them. My family originated in Northern Ireland. As a matter of a fact, very few of the immediate family immigrated here. Only two, James Woods Gyle but he came to CT. in 1920's, and Richard Gyle who settled in Missouri in the early 1900's (he was James's uncle. I am interested in the PA branch so anything you know or could share would be greatly appreciated. I beleive the GYLE name originated in England as I found a reference to the exact spelling form the early 1500's. I don't think our family name has changes spellings since then. good luck

Hi, I guess I haven't checked here in some time. Thak you for the information and I would be interested in what you have. My fmaily came from Northern Ireland but have suspected that they originated in England and migrated Northward. There are several mentions of GYLE(towns, etc) in Scotland and several of my family went back there to live. I have also come across the name ALEXANDER GYLE. Amelia would be the great, great grandmother of my husband (I am married to a GYLE but am the one researching). The Irish family were sailors. John Gyle was a Captain and sailed out of BELFAST. I know there is a Captain John Gyle who settled in USA but he is a different person. There is probably a link somewhere. Thanks and I will be looking forward to hearing form you. Diane

I am a Gyle from Metuchen, NJ/Paterson, NJ have family history from Ireland.

My maiden name was Gyle. My grandfather Nicholas Gyle grew up in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, as did my father James Gyle and myself. My grandfather died in the second world war, and my father died this year. I have come across this website by accident, and I am surprised, because when I grew up and throughout my life I have never met anyone else with the surname Gyle!! Nice to see I was not the only one!!

Hello Maria. I just stumbled accross your message! The Gyle's I am researching also came from Carrickfergus. Do you still live in Ireland? There are several Gyle families here in the US but I have not been able to connect them yet. Only two mwmbers of the Gyle's I am researching ever came to America. I have emailed a couple who still reside in Ireland.
Nice to hear from you.
Diane
