Trying to reestablish contact with Lawrence (Larry) Gyger in the Cumberland MD area. I come from the Texas Gygers now in Arizona. Tracing roots of Geiger / Giger in the Virginia area. I am a descendent of Christian Geiger >> George Giger >> Larkin Gyger

Hi Gene, I have a book on Rockingham Co.Virginia That has a list of early marriages from the records of the Peaked Mountian Church Listing two geiger's (1)Christian Geiger Sr. m. Widow Dindore in September 6, 1796. (2)Christian Geiger m. Emilia Schmidt (Possibly SMITH) in September 25,1796. It Also seem's according to the dates that Christian (1)could have been Christian (2) father.I hope this will help you.The name of the book is (A HISTORY OF ROCKINGHAM COUNTY) by John W. Wayland,Ph.D . Gene I am researching the SURNAMES (GEYER,GUYER,GYER,GUIER) If you find any ties between your surname and my names please contact me. I live in the Shenadoah Valley in Virginia.

Hello Dennis,
I have extensive documentation on early Geigers and similar surnames. Yes, some of them are from Rockingham County in this timeframe. Yes, Christian had a father named Christian and we have a lot of information on him.

I'll reply later with more information. I just wanted you to have my email address so we could write directly.

Most of the research is not mine - it has been given to me by many others.

I use FamilyTree software and can import and export those files plus GEDCOMS.

Nice to hear from you.

Surnames: Gyger, Elsisser, Huber, Lingamfelter, Lupton, Bar, Baer, Gautschi
I have a family in my husband's line (Swiss/German?) that includes Agatha Gyger (b/d in the 1500s), who m. Abraham Elsisser. They had a dau., Maria Elsisser, who d. in 1614.

My husband's part of this lineage wound up in PA and VA, and includes names such as Huber, Lingamfelter, Lupton, Bar/Baer, Gautschi/Gawertschi, and many others. I have lots of info from Maria on down, but have little info about the Gyger connection.

Perhaps you can help?
Thanks,
Sharon

I think I may not have replied. But in case, this may be a duplicate.

Your information is older than mine. The oldest documented ancestor is Christian Geiger - about 1600 - who settled in the Lancaster County area of Pennsylvania.

A good site to visit is MaggieKyger Miller's site at

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=loganhol...

I'd be happy to share what I have on this family.

Dear Gene,
Thanks for the info. I just checked out the site, but found no matches (drat!), though the Lancaster, PA area is indeed where a lot of folks in my husband's line immigrated to. There are probably some connections I missed, as I didn't go through all the alternate spellings.
Sincerely,
Sharon
