GYDE Family of London England > Canada (Part 2)
William Gyde, Rose Gyde, Lucy Gyde and there brother George Gyde were born in London England. All four came to Canada as Barnardo's children. George and William came to Ont in 1893. Rose came to Ont in 1897. Do not know when Lucy came over, she ended up in B C. Canada. There father Arthur William Gyde was a policeman in London England, and it is believed that he was injured and could no longer look after the 4 oldest children.

It might be as well to say why you posted.

1. Hope someone can help you find the family on the 1891 census.
2. You have posted on the Gloucestershire Board. Is there a known Glos connection? Interestingly, some of the Gydes on the 1881 census were in/from Painswick in Glos.
3. I can't find a clear record on the 1881 census (familysearch.org) for father as either Arthur or William. No reference to police role, either.
I suspect that this MIGHT be him and Annie (nee Young) in 1881, but his age 32 has been mis-transcribed as 22 .... The 1891 census would confirm.

Re: Gydes from London England, that came to Canada as Barnardo's children
In 1891 Census - Hackney, London - #12 Dalston Lane - Arthur Gyde age 42, Annie age 36 with children William age 10, George age 9, Rosa age 7. Also living at same residence is George Gyde age 65 retired policeman, Mary gyde age 66. Arthur's occupation is listed as Lithographic printer.

1901 census is available at: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/census/default.htmThe index has an Arthur Gyde age 52 born London City, living Clerkenwell, Litho printer. Have to pay to see whole entry, but the only other Gyde in Clerkenwell on the index is Elizabeth, age 8. There is an index entry for a Willian Gyde, 42, Blacksmith, who I suspect accounts for the 1881 William Gyde in my pervious message, so perhaps discounting that one, after all. Which means Arthur still not accounted for on 1881. Possibly mis-spelled somewhere. Sonia

Re: Found family on 1881 census
Very pleased with this one!!
Found mistranscribed on 1881 census at familysearch.org I'd be willing to bet that if you check the original census record, the 'ol' of GYOLE will be the 'd' of GYDE.
Everything else ties in: place; age; wife Annie; likely marriage year, occupation same as 1901; children Lucy and William: Arthur W. GYOLE Head M Male 32 St Pancras, Middlesex, England Printer Lithographer Annie GYOLE Wife M Female 26 Evenley, Northampton, England Printer Lithographer Wife William GYOLE Son Male 11 m St Lukes, Middlesex, England Mary Lucy GYOLE Daur Female 2 Evenley, Northampton, England
