GWINNETT, GWYNETT Family - DNA Project (16 months later)

(updated: 16 Nov 2012)

We began our GUIN,GWIN,GUYN,GWYN DNA Project and variant surnames on 11 Jul 2011. Shortly after this, (Oct 2011) we expanded the project as "1st official combined project" to include the surnames related to CUIN-O'CUINN-McCUINN, GINN-GUINNESS, GOEN-GOINS, McGINNIS-McGUINNESS, QUIN-QUINN, and WINN-WYNNE and their related surnames as a supplement to traditional genealogical research. Also, we suspect similar origins between several of these groups going back 2000 years, which only DNA can prove. If your surname is a variant of the previously mentioned names, please consider joining our combined project as your Secondary or Primary choice. There is "No Limit" to the number of projects in which you can participate.

In our first year the GINN,GUIN,GWIN,GUYN,GWYN Project achieved 75 project members (now at 117), due to those which have already tested. We are encouraging new members to reach out and test their loved ones, during this period while prices at their lowest. We have many participants in all categories of Y-DNA testing, mtDNA testing and Autosomal DNA testing, but most likely do not have your specific branch going back to the early 1800's to confirm a positive match. (see current Holiday Sales Promotion)

With the help of several administrators who have many years of genealogical experience and fellow project members, our accomplishments have included resolving discrepancies with many family trees found on other web sites. We have privately assisted with several adoption cases and solved several non-paternal events (NPE). But mostly, we have been able to correctly displayed the genetic proof of genealogical connections to several branches of specific families for your interpretation. With our current members and knowledge of DNA results from other sources, we have also confirmed in three areas of the DNA spectrum that there is a very close DNA association between several COEN-COYNE, QUIN-GUINN, and GUINN-GWINN families, and several O'QUINN and O'GUIN families. Those particular circumstances might not apply to your specific families, but there may be other possible combinations of "very close associations" which we hope to discover.

We do not have all the answers, but our ongoing efforts will continue for many years as we learn about your particular families DNA origins and the ability compare matches for proper grouping, in a timely manner. We will continue to explore family connections for future participation.

(a.) our Background Page: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GuinnGwinn/default.aspx
(b.) our Y-DNA Participants: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GuinnGwinn/default.aspx?...
(c.) our mtDNA Participants: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GuinnGwinn/default.aspx?...
(d.) our Autosomal Participants: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GuinnGwinn/default.aspx?...
**** Please note that our project is only "one" out of 7,000 more projects currently established with FTDNA.

Sincerely,
Michael A.
"Review your goals, it's your choice!!!"

Interesting facts about FamilyTreeDNA.com ...

1.) 90% of genealogists choose www.FamilyTreeDNA.com – with the Largest DNA database worldwide.

2.) As of March 10, 2012, FTDNA has a total of 365,205 DNA records! Whether your goal is to verify your genealogy or to discover your deep ancestral origins, the size of the testing company's database is of fundamental importance. To get the best and most accurate answer, you want to compare your results with as many others as possible, which means choosing the company with the largest and most robust database. Family Tree DNA is in the lead, their databases are several times larger than "ALL THE OTHERS COMBINED.."!

3.) Paternal Y-DNA test categories: Y-12, Y-25, Y-37, Y-67, Y-111.

4.) Maternal categories: mtPlus, mtFull, mtMega.

5.)
Hi there, i am supposed to be related to Button Gwinnett too! My maiden name is Winnett, so we lost the G somewhere in history. Would be interesting to know some of your family names to see if they tie in.
Some here are
Maude Gwinnett, who became a Taylor, emigrated with her minister husband to Illinois in about 1908 (not sure on that date)She was a member of the 'Daughters of the revolution'
Then more recently there is an Albert Winnet, married to Elizabeth. they had two children, Elsie and Albert (dont you just love the lack of imagination for names in those days!)they would have been my great grand parents. Then Albert had my Grandfather Henry John Winnet born 1904.
Does any of that fit?
Heres hoping we can help each other
Regards
Helene

Gwinnett ties in Dudley, England

Hi

My great grandfather Richard Gwinnett was born in Dudley on the 5 Dec 1843, his father was Benjamin Gwinnett who married Mary Ann Whitehouse,Kingswinford, Staff. Richard and Sarah move north to Aspull near Wigan, I assume for work but do not know. The first record I can find of them in Wigan is the 1871 cencus.

I also believe that Benjamin may be recorded as Gwinnutt in some cases but I am unsure if that is a miss reading for scribed records.

In the 1881 cencus the name for Richard and his family is record as being Guinett.

If anyone has any information on the Dudley Gwinnetts I would be most interested.

Regards
Fred

My Great great grandfather was Albert Winnett(1880's?) (we used to be Gwinnett, but lost the 'G' at some point). And he worked/owned fish and chip shops in Cotteridge, he was married to an Elizabeth. He then worked at Cadburys and had a bad accident resulting in him being paralysed. He had a sister called Maude. And its all in the same sort of area.
Also Albert had a son called Albert and he married a Floss and they had a daughter Betty who moved to Towyn Wales. So that sort of fits too.
Hope we can all help each other
Let me know if anything of this ties up
Helene
