I have GWINNELL family in this area too especially around Dursley and Stone, Gloucestershire. Since its an uncommon name I collect all references I come across. If you'd like to contact me off list I'll see if I have anything on your family.

Hi,
I live in Stafford and have my wife and child all under the name of Gwinnell, i have lived here for four years and previously came from the Dudley area, my father Anthony Gwinnell and his father William Gwinnell all lived in the Dudley area.
I have an understanding that my family originated from the Welsh borders may be even as far up as Lancashire, do you have any further knowledge?

Best regards,
Ian

I'm in Canada.... I have GWINNELL ancestry from Eastington, Bristol and area. (Looks like every Gwinnell comes from there *LOL*) I am looking for help with ancestry of Amelia Warlow GWINNELL (my great grandmother who married Fred Dicker) she had a son prior to marrying Fred Dicker, (had 2 children with Fred... Florence and Leila) - his name was William James Gwinnell - Amelia's father was James Gwinnell. When looking at information it looks like her son may have been illigitimate based on Census - however, I just received William James Gwinnell's marriage record (married Alice Weeks) it shows that his father was William Gwinnell (deceased) Engineer. Their names are very common for the day so I'm having a hard time of it - Can anyone help me.... Susan

Hi Roy,

I have a couple of William Gwinnell's in my tree as well as a Sarah Gwinnell in my tree - unfortunately I don't think it's the one you are looking for. The Sarah I have - her father was Edward -or- Edwin Gwinnell.

I still don't have all the Gwinnell's as yet, but will keep your note and if I find one married to HOLDER I'll get in touch with you. The closest I came to in my tree to HOLDER was HARPER married to Gwinnell.

Do you have an approximate BIRTH/DEATH of your Sarah (1700s -1800s -1900s)? It'll help me pin it down if I find her (see as there were so many being such a common name back in the day)....Let me know...
