Michael, I can't find the message you posted asking me to explain why I think my Martin Guinn was son of Jeremiah Guinn of Fentress Co. TN & Clinton Co. KY. So I'll just post it here and assume you'll see it at some time.
You and I have corresponded much in the past and I think we've talked about this before but I'm posting it all here so maybe someone who can help will see it.
Guinn, Martin
This is a chronology that I posted in table format but the table didn't transfer. Hope this is clear enough.

Following are some facts to substantiate conjecture that Martin Guinn is the son of Jeremiah Guinn, as well as some information that may or may not be applicable.
1. David "Tinker" Beaty was head of a guerrilla troupe for the Union Army during the Civil War. In a book at the library, it says that his cousin, Martin Guinn, served with him. My Martin would have been about 17, and is the only Martin Guinn I found anywhere during that period of time. Jeremiah Guinn's older sister was married to Isaac Beaty.
2. In a history book on Fentress Co., TN, it's stated that Rebecca Crouch (I think that's the right last name—can't put my hands on it at the moment) married "a Mr. Guinn".
3. In the Autobiography of Rev. A. B. Wright of Fentress Co., TN (he was a circuit riding preacher) he states that on the third Sunday in July, 1879, he preached the funeral of Rebecca Guin. (that doesn't necessarily mean she died then. They preached funerals when they came to town, which could be infrequently).
4. In 1969, Neva (Mrs. Tommie) Guinn interviewed Tommie's aunt, Rebecca Dodson. Rebecca told her that when she was a child, they were often visited by Mart Guinn and his wife, Lizzie. She said Mart was a brother or half-brother to her father, David Guinn. She knew that Mart had been married before, and the wife was named Becky and that she had "died young". She also was able to give Neva the names of most of Mart and Lizzie's children. David was the son of Jeremiah Guinn.
5. David Guinn lived in Wayne Co., KY 1860-1870 and his brother Aley Guinn lived in Clinton Co. (They also married Rule sisters, whose family lived in Wayne County). They both lived in Barren Co., KY in 1880. Very near Aley was a Martin V. Guinn. His age looks like 23, and his wife is Nancy B. aged 28. It is a very poor copy. My Martin would have been about 34, but the coincidence is incredible, considering other information following.
6. Barren County is near Larue County, where Martin married Lizzie in December, 1881. I think it's about 40 miles between the two towns. They could ride it on horseback probably in a day or less.
7. Sometime after Lizzie's grandfather died, Martin and Lizzie moved to MO. From children's birth dates and places, I think they left Larue County in 1888-1889. They settled for a while in Wright Co., MO where there were other Guinn's, though I haven't found a connection. Significantly, David and Ale left KY around that same time and went further, to OK. I have speculated that Mart and Lizzie stopped in MO because of childbirth, or wagon trouble or some such, and stayed on for a while.
8. About 1901 Mart and family moved to Brown twp., Seminole Co., OK. At that time, David Guinn was in Maud, Pottawatamie Co., OK and Aley had gone down to Coal Co., OK further along the road. When Mart and Lizzie moved to Brown twp., they were within a few miles of David Guinn and his family.

I think these facts especially lend credence to my belief that Martin was brother to son of Jeremiah:
· Martin stayed in fairly close proximity to David and Aley most of his life
· Becky Dodson had accurate information on Martin years before I ever met Neva & Tommie Guinn
· Martin named his oldest son Ale, after the aforementioned Aley. (Just as a point of interest, I think the name Aley originally was Eleazar. It's pronounced Ale-uh-zar. On the 1850 census Aley's name looks like Alezar or Alegon. There is an Eleazar Guinn listed in another county of an earlier generation.)

It's possible that Martin didn't belong to that family. But he always stated he was born in TN. I found a Martin V. Guinn on the 1850 census in Platte Co., MO and he has a twin, William Benton. His age is 7, which would make his birth date 1843. He's not listed with his father, but with a William Guinn who's about 22, as I recall. I've not been able to find William Benton Guin anywhere after that census, and the 1880 Barren Co. KY census is the first one I've seen after that, that shows Martin V.

Until I can prove otherwise, I'm going to assume that Becky Dodson had accurate information on their relationship. I would love to hear from anyone with information on any of these people.
