A few years ago I had a mitochondrial DNA test done and found I'm an exact match with a guy in Scotland, Tony Gott. My direct maternal great greatgrandmother was a woman born in Wales, abt 1832, who married a William Evans of Welshpool, Wales or so the family genealogy says tho from looking at old records he may have been her brother. They immigrated to Radnor, Delaware Co., Ohio.

Tony Gott's Great great grandmother was Elizabeth Evans, born in Welshpool in 1816, Married Edward Davies and remained in Welshpool. Tony has been searching for Elizabeth's death certificate which might tell us the name of her parents and we hope to find out if they were sisters or maternally related cousins.

Both Tony and I are in mtDNA Haplogroup T2b20. Haplogroup T (Tara) originated in the middle east then spread out through Europe and North Africa. Haplogroup T2 and T2b probably sheltered in Northern Italy during the last ice age then moved north and west, many repopulating the British Isles after the ice retreated. Haplogroup T2b20 was originated by a woman who had two rare mutations who probably lived in the British Isles thousands of years ago.

You must have thought 'Spare me the lecture'.

I followed Wm and Eleanor Gwilt all the way from Welshpool to 1901 Radnorshire thru the censuses. 8 children, except for your Elizabeth Jane Gwilt couldn't find the others after 1901.

By the way I updated the T2b 263A file at Worldconnect, it's much easier to search the file by surname.

Hello Tony

Thanks for the information. I saw on the GRO that the marriage was likely to be Atcham Registration District, but would you be able to tell me which parish they married in please? I hope to go to Shrewsbury Archives in the next couple of months and can check the parish in question to see if there are any more clues on the family.

I see that the information you have would be consistant with William being the son of John Gwilt and Ann Williams who married at Forden, Montgomeryshire on 3rd May 1814.

Regards
Peter
